Default Maximum depth you can fly cut ??? Crap !!!

Anybody know the maximum depth you can fly cut a stock piston. I have heard .120 but I cut one to .164. Not planning on nitrous ....so am I safe or shall I worry from now on out Crap!!!! Thanks

Here is the thread where it was mentioned that LG recommended a max cut of .080".

I've seen preople cut up to about .140" deep successfully.

There is about 1/4" (.250) meat on the piston top. You might be ok, just make damn sure you never run lean!

And serious, it's time to put the drill down and use something a little slower, ie: tap wrench or air ratchet. (those notching tools were actually designed to be used by hand).

Default Fly Cutting

Okay Guys this is what I found out. The actual piston thickness is.360. and one guy actually measured it to be 8 mm. The cut I made is .164 the rest .120 intake, that gave me clearance of .085. Exhaust .125 for a clearance of .100 So maybe it will be alright. Great tip about running lean . Start up in 2 days so then we will see Thanks

Now I'm really surious to know what head/cam specs you're running to get those numbers.
