Steering Wheel shimmy

2001 vette 46,000 miles. my steering wheel shimmy's just a bit when I am on the express way. It will start @ 55mph and above. car does not pull to either side car drives straight. wheel wear is good.

Sounds like something in the front end, suspect a bent wheel, bent hub, tire balance.. What is the service history?

Are the freeways there made of concrete with the rain grooves in them? If so, does the shimmy continue on regular non-concrete roads?

I would be checking the tire balancing.
Also, if you have weak shocks, you might be getting some bouncing because the shocks are not providing enough damping of the spring movement.

I would check tire pressures and then if that is not the problem see if they are still in balance.

Thanks for all the input. I will get a balance done tomorrow. I will also check the wheels and shocks for damage. P.S. the expressways here are asphalt and concrete. thanks again.

When you get the balance done start from scratch with no weights. Bought a set of GM zo6 factory rims with KDW tires from a forum member they shook at 75 mph, took it in and had it rebalanced from scratch, some of the wheels went from 4 to 6 ozs to zero weight with the rebalancing, front end does not shake at any speed.
