Default C6 ZO6 shifter question

Just installed c6 zo6 shifter, replacing a hurst, should this zo6 shifter center itself in neutral like the hurst did. Right now where ever the shifter is in neutral - left, right, or in the middle is where it stays when I let it go.

No. The Hurst had centering springs, stocker does not.

I'm not sure that is right? My stocker DOES center itself, at the 3-4 gate in nuetral. I'm not sure how you would drive a 6 speed without this feature?

Did you transfer the plastic button on the bottom of the shifter (unless the C6 Z06 shifter came with one installed)? You must do this.

Also, did you use the centering pin BEFORE tighthening the shifter?

Another thing, did you save and reuse your stock bolts? The Hurst requires longer bolts, since the plate is thicker, I am not sure that they would tighten up on a stock shifter?

I dropped in complete Zo6 shifter unit(brand new from factory), tightened the 2 T40 screws, then the bolt on the alignment clamp housing the shaft, then popped up the neutral lock pin. As for the plastic button I think that this is contained within the unit itself - I did not take it apart. The shifter definately does not center itself in neutral.

The shifter does not center itself the transmission does it for you. my c6 shifter does stay at the 3-4 gate. Not sure what problem you shifter introduced but I am sure someone will chime in soon.

My 07 Z06 shifter in my C5 centers itself. Have you used the shifter yet? By that, I mean, have you driven it and it shifts normal? It sounds like you may not have tightened the bolt on the shift shaft good enough. That shaft is what centers your shifter.

Was it hard to get that bolt in? Could you look the down the hole where the bolt goes and line up the dished out section of the shift shaft with the hole?

Thanks guys - tightening the bolt on the shift shaft corrected the problem, shifter now centers on 3 // 4 gate. Too bad I didn't figure this out before I put it all back together the first time.
