Anyone use or try one? they are mostly used on marine engine applications, i was thinking of a way to avoid the jacking both ends hassle. i would still have to use the jack to change the filter though.
I used it on the boat I used to have. But the dipstick was a straight shot into the pan and you could ballast the boat to get most of the oil out. I don't think you will get as much out in the LS1 setup. I drive mine a ramps and then jack the rear. This way, I can go a little higher to drain and then I get the oil filter from behind the front driver's side tire rather than from the front. I also get the plug this way. Rhino ramps and a floor jack with a 5 lb barbell weight (I glued rubber on mine) to lift the rear.

After using on of these devices for twenty years, I agree that in the C5 application, you may not get but 4 or 5 quarts of oil out. You could jack and lean your car around to find the "sweet spot" but all that would be more difficult than just doing the normal thing in the first place.
If ease is your goal, I would just have the oil changed at one of the many respectable places. I live in a suburb of MEM and have mine done (of all places) Wal-Mart. They know me VERY well, I always have my car spotless and watch EVERY move they make. $60
I've tried using a similar device and gave up because I couldn't get the suction tube all the way down to the bottom of the oil pan. So, I use the procedure described by vettenuts.
Thanks for all the replys, i was wondering about the tube going all the way down, i have used the ramps (front) and jack (rear) method in the past, just looking for alternatives and going to a dealer or lube shop was one of them albeit a last one.
I change the oil&filter yearly at about 6,000 mi. so i can keep doing it the same way to.
I, too, was curious about changing the oil in my C5 via an oil pump. In fact, I use an oil pump to suck the oil out of both my motorcycles and my wifes VW Passat when doing oil changes. The pump works reasonably well for these applications.
However, it seems to be a circuitous path down the dip-stick tube to the bottom of the oil pan on the C5. As such, I can't get the pump tubing down far enough to suck out all the oil.
So, its ramps in the front and jack in the rear for C5 oil changes.
