ok so no one in the general section has even bothered to answer me, maybe someone here can help...in my bf's 03 coupe i noticed that the bose amplifier is in the left rear compartment. i have the same bose system, but i have an 01 and my left rear compartment is empty. Is it in a different place in older models? thanks guys, hopefully someone can answer this for me...
Hang on.. There are NOT any amps in the speakers on C5's. There is an amplifier under the dash on the drivers side. Its a silver box. If you have the 12 disc changer thats located in the large well in the rear compartment and the F-45 control module located in the left small well.
Yes. My 02 had a slightly different system, but that's where it's controller was located. I'm fairly certain that the F55 controller was installed in the same location.
Thanks for the correction on the amp, Bill. For some reason, I was thinking of my dad's C4 setup.

The system is basically composed of the following ...
Head Unit (radio/CD controls) - in dashboard above the shift lever
Bose Signal processing unit - located behind the closeout panel to the right of the drivers feet. Roughly to the right and above the accelerator pedal.
Speakers (4)
Antenna - located in right rear of car
CD changer (if installed) - located in the trunk, in the center storage compartment (as installed at the factory)
Maybe your b/f installed the CD changer and had it located in the left well ???
Whatever Bose component is in the left well in the trunk, it doesn't sound like it came that way from the factory.
I've got what looks like an AMP under my passenger seat... Is that correct for a '99 or are we in modville here?
The passengers seat area does NOT have any factory modules mounted under it unless you have a power passengers seat and of course, then you would have the motors and control module for that option mounted in the seat. Sort of like this!
If there is an amp or control box mounted on the floor or behind the seat, it isn't OEM!

It's a manual seat for sure. The box under the seat has a couple of RCA jacks in it. Wonder if it's tied into the rest of my stereo anymore... When I bought the car it had a subwoofer that did not work in the center storage area. Took that out and returned the rear end to stock.
System sounds great bye the way - at least to my tin ear.

What is in the leather pouch in the picture? Always wondered what that was and why the pouch.
To expand BlackZ06's post, there are 4 amps in the head unit and there are also 2 amplifiers in the door speaker pods that drive the big 8" speaker.
The head unit sends low level signals to the sound processor. The sound processor returns 4 low level signals to the head unit that are amplified and then sent to the 2 small door speakers and the rear speakers. The sound processor also sends low level signals to the door amplifiers.
the only amped speakers in the c5 vette are the 8" subs in the doors. the rest run off of head unit power. Also, the amp is part of the front speaker assembly and does not sit else where in the car.
here is the front speaker assembly that houses the 8" sub, 3.5" twiddler and the amp for the sub
