Default Can TPS's program themselves?

Had TPS's programmed back in October when i got my chrome Z06 wheels.

About a month ago i switched them out and installed CCW 505a's....with TPS's...I never had them programmed.

Well just today, i was scrolling thru the "gauges" and lo and behold there they were, Front L29 & R29 and then Rear L29 & R29.

Is it possible they program themselves or are these readings still showing from the last set i had on there?

Before today the information center displayed something along the lines of 'needing to get them programmed' but i never did.

Any ideas?

Your explanation is vague .... you installed new wheels (rims) with TPMS .... are they a "new" set of TPMS ..... or are they the old ones ??

Are the old ones still in proximity to the car ... such as sitting in your garage on the "old" wheels ??

The TPMS cannot "program themselves" ..... any more than they can procreate or clone themselves .... they are a pressure sensor and a radio transmitter ... that is all they are ....

If you have "new" sensors on the car, you should re-program the car ASAP ... it is about a 5 minute project that requires a fairly strong magnet (like a speaker magnet) to perform the task. The only way you would get your hands dirty doing the re-program is if the magnet is dirty.

Marie,
Maybe your magnetic personality programmed them...

I just changed wheels, I have a procedure to "learn" the sensors. A magnet is needed and some DIC procedures! Sorry I can't walk you thru it right now but it is on this forum somewhere, try a search!

Wow...ya know what? Yep, when i noticed the readings on the dash, i was parked in the garage...and the old wheels are right in front of the car

Both sets of wheels have sensors in them

Ok, well that solves that mystery...i'll try that do-it-yourself trick up above tomorrow. Thanx for the link

Thanx guys

yes it is possible. if you disconnect your battery for the winter like i do and reinstall it in the spring the tps sensors will all read blank until you drive the car and get the wheels spinning for about 1/2 mile. then, the sensors wake up and the readings just come back on their own. its totally normal.

I did that same thing when I changed wheels, couldn't figure out why they kept failing about 20 minutes into my drive everytime.
