I have a 99 C5 coupe A4. I understand there is a way of bypassing the ECM to elimate the fuel cutoff normally associated with the steering column lock issue???????
There was a post a while back that showed how to re-program the limit up to 232 mph. I forget what software was used. I believe a TECH II can do it, but trying to find a TECH II in non-GM hands is hard (it costs $2,000-3,000 without software updates), and GM Dealers won't re-program limit due to liability.

Having followed the column lock issue for years, I'd be very interested to hear of any by-pass to the fuel flow cut-off limit. Many tuners can reprogram various limits without using a Tech II, or so I'm told.
Yes HP Tuners will do the trick.
I had to do that myself.
I had a CLB in my car when I got the problem.
GM tried to do all kinds of things, AKA there fix.
And none of it worked.
I did the flash with HP Tuners, and all worked.....
Well, other than I still throw the codes?
I got a new CLB, hopeing that would solve the codes.
That did not work either? I can now get the pull key wait 10 sec's to go away, if I turn the key a few times before starting. Then I just get the colum lock messasge, whitch can be cleared with the reset.
Thanks for posting these links, they are a BIG eye opener. I was not aware of the link between a failed column lock motor and the inability to successfully install the CLB. Installing a new motor ($541) to reestablish the circuit, only to then disable everything by installing the CLB is outrageous! If there was ever a reason to install the CLB BEFORE a failure occurs, this is it!
I'm equally surprised to learn there is a method to reset GM's fule flow cut-off threshold (2MPH) using HP Tuner to increase the threshold to maximum MPH. Thanks to Russ K for the work he's done researching this critical issue.
If I understand what I read, installing the CLB NOW and reseting the MPH threshold, should forever solve the column lock issue and prevent a fuel flow shutdown?!!
Hey all, this is my first post here and am having fuel cutoff issue with my c5 6spd. Many thanks to C5 Bruce for e mails about a possible fix.....it is back in (yesterday) for the 4th time since October. Usually the remove for 10 seconds comes on, I remove and start and everything is O.K. for a few starts....Saturday it did it, it removed the key started and it went to column lock! Well I'll let U know what happens..............
