Passenger window doesn't work...
Hello,
Out of the blue today, my passenger window just stopped working. I push the button to lower it, but nothing happens. When I push the button, I hear it click from inside the door...the same for when I I push the button for up. Also, it acts as if the motor is trying to lower the window, because the courteousy light in the footwell dims as I try to lower it. It's as if it's stuck. Any ideas??? Thanks!

It seems to be quite a common problem for the passenger window motor to stop working. The problem seems to stem from the fact that the window does not get used. Hold the door window button down and have someone slam the door repeatedly(fairly firmly) or fist/pound the door area at the arm rest....the idea is to free up the motor brush contacts that have frozen.
This worked on mine, now I raise/lower that window 2-3 times every time I drive it...never had another problem.

Thanks for the reply...I've been out pounding and "slamming" the door. No luck yet. It does make sense that it would be the motor since I can hear it clicking. I may just have to buy a new one and replace it. I'm sure it's ridiculously priced.

I was just on GMpartshouse.com and it doesn't show a window motor available...only a modulator?? Would that be considered the motor? The picture looks as if it could be the unit.

It could be the relay in the passenger door control module. Relays are usually the problem for the door locks, not the solenoids. before replacing the regulator/motor, I would try to operate it using jumpers to its connector. You need to remove the door panel and you need a schematic to do that test.

After seeing how the motor is integral with the gear drive and cables, I would not try to replace the motor. You will probably be better off replacing the complete regulator assembly.
You might be able to beat on it and get it to work for awhile, but once they mess up, you can never be sure they will work.
I have already replaced both window regulators on my 2004 Z06.
An assembly from GM costs $300 to $400 depending on your discount, but there is a dealer on ebay that sells them for around $200. Forum members say they are the GM part that is discounted, but these days the pirates can make pretty good copies, so you never know for sure.

Try using a rubber mallet to hit around the interior door handle area while pressing the window down button (with ignition on). If that doesn't work, try removing the interior door panel, and then hitting the door with a rubber mallet. If you're getting the click sound, then the motor is just stuck. A few firm hits with the mallet will free it up.

I have just repaired my window motor. Same deal as replacing the regulator but I repaired the motor brushes which had arced and distorted. Will post procedure used to repair but the removal and relacement is per the manual

widow regulator
Total cost !! Beer for my engineer. We opened the drive mechanism to allow access to the armature. Just a matter of putting it back the way you found it plus (the engineer knowing we had to relieve the tension on the spiders to allow the assembly to be re assembled. Saving ?? For me in europe, $300.

I just picked up my new motor from the parts store. Looks like there's four mounting holes. What all is entailed in swapping it out? The instructions with the motor talk about drilling holes, popping rivets, etc.?? Does the old one just unbolt and replace the new one? It's just the motor attached to a black plastic piece. Also, is it best to unbolt the motor from the plastic with the gear and just use it or use the entire assembly.? Any help from others who swapped just the motor would be appreciated. Thanks!!

To remove the motor from the spider gearbox there were 4 screws from motor to gearbox and 3 screws to open the top of spide gearbox. As I repaired my brushes I dont know how the replacement motor looks, but the extended shaft with worm gears is an easy fit into the plastic gears in the spider. When replacing the spider gear on the central hub you just have to relieve the spring tension so the hub and the central drive can be centred in the spider. Sorry didnt take any pictures but it was straight forward and I didnt separate any of the drive wires. Good luck.
