Default theft lock out

I stopped at a wayside and when I tried to restart the vette I think the theft deterrent system didn't recognize my key and the car went totally dead. After I read the manual and waited 3 minutes, the security light flashed but the car still didn't recongize my. Eventually it did. What's going on?

If the security light is flashing, then the pellet in the key isn't being recognized. Clean it with a pencil eraser and try again. As long as the security light is flashing, the car will not start.

I had the same issue with my '97. Neither key would work even after cleaning. It cost me $400 to have the dealership replace the ignition key barrel thing. A few weeks later it started doing it again. I did some serious research and tracked the problem down to the theft deterrant relay down in the passenger's footwell. Its a $35 part from the dealership, but I bought it from Redline automotive for $20. Simple fix and I never had the problem again. This may or may not be the cause of your problem though. Just giving you some options to check out.
