The box you're holding is the PCM. Easiest way I found to clean them is with a mild wire brush or one of those nylon style brushes that use on a drill or air powered nut grinder.

Thanks! I just went and bought some attachments for my cordless drill. Let you know how it turns out. I plan on sanding the frame and battery area. What steps do I take next without ordering the stuff you mentioned from Eastwood?

I would not skip the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator as that is the most important item to use to prevent the re-occurrence of rust. There is not too much steel used on the vettes but the steel that is used needs to be protected.

Took me a couple of hours to clean everything up nicely. Wipe down with pre-paint cleaner and throw on the rust encapsulator.

Your damage look pretty bad and so you'll want be sure you kill all of the rust. You can use any other kind of black paint you want after you kill the rust.

Just spent an hour straight using a wire brush on the cordless drill knocking off rust. There are going to be spots that I can not reach. Is this where the encapsulator comes in? Does it act like a primer also?

Sorry. Went to Eastwood's website. They suggest using the rust converter first, then the encapsulator (which acts like a primer as well).

Yes, that is why I recommend and use it. There are just some places that you can not get too, so you need to chemically treat them with the rust encapsulator.

Default Another leaking battery story

You'd think by now that someone in the aftermarket would have manufactured a deeper, or higher battery tray. One just like the one that sits down above the PCM and the wiring harness, but with say five inche high walls ?

I am ordering the encapsulator and the converter now. The chassis black comes in different types. What do you suggest there? Satin or gloss?

The use of lead acid batteries in the C5 sucks big time. Mine splashed all over. It probably started with the original owner. With extreme temperatures under the hood and during the summer, the acid must boil over. Combine that with vibration and air and it goes everywhere!

Satin most closely matches the factory.

Ok cool. Put it on my list. Do you use Rhino ramps for the front of your car?
