Just want to add and someone might have already said this but to get the horn to not beep...just disconnect the battery before ya start.

Thank you so much for the write-up, I'll be using it tomorrow.

Default Headlight switch

(car is 2001) I just noticed last week that my dash lights would not work. I searched this forum and found the headlight switch was the problem and after reading I checked and did not have tail lights either. This is a great help in changing the switch. It took me about two hours. Part of that time was used to find a replacement screw for the top steering cover since I found I was missing a screw when I took it apart. The photos are a big help and the tool list also. I searched for the GM part number 26075870 and also found the AC Delco number. I purcharsed from Amazon dot com : 1 ACDelco D1512G Switch Asse... $144.62 and also got free shipping. I ordered April 27th, got it UPS april 30 and installed May first. That was quick replacement. I also found that by switching on the Twilight option the lights worked automaticaly even with the bad switch. I always keep my car in excellent condition so I replaced the switch as soon as possible and I am happier that way.
Thanks again for a very helpful post.

People who take the time to make write ups like this are what make this forum so great. A picture can make any project seem easy to do.

Got a new 97 and everything seemed fine then the headlights just stopped working. They do not come on with the switch. If I momentarily do the high beams they do come on but doors stay down.

Does this mean it is time to repair the switch?

Well my turn signal blinker just started acting strange on my 2000 FRC, when I try to put on the turn signal it works 90% of the time but the other 10% it just doesn't come on. When it decides to not work it won't work for a period of time, but if I hit the hazard light switch the signals illuminate and then they will work with the regular turn signal switch once again. Has anyone had this problem or know if fixing the headlight/turn signal switch would heal it?

I had the same problem with my 01. I wouldnt have any turn signals and so I would push the hazard switch on and then flip the turn signals on and they would work for awhile. I put a new hazard switch in and the problem solved! Turn signals work properly again.

I did mine using this writeup and it was easy. The dealer charges like 300 for labor probably because the manual says to remove the steering wheel to get that one pesky torx bolt.

Thanks for doing the writeup!!!

Actually got it done today. My buddy took care of it for me since he happen to have time at his shop. Took care of all the symptoms except for the fog lights still don't turn on.

Great Instructions, would anyone happen to know if the Washer/Wiper switch can be R&R'd , in the same manner?

Thanks!

Hi rick -

Yes it can, I just did that to my Z a few months ago when the button on the end of the stalk pushed in - I assume the spring failed, but I replaced the stalk the same way that Alaskanpilot detailed here.

best regards -
