My 98 C5 was supposedly serviced for this in 06, but it happened to me yesterday. Chevy wants me to pay to have it fixed.
I read a bunch of posts on the issue and thought I saw somewhere that if the issue happens after it was serviced, something additional needs done at NO CHARGE.
Can anyone back me on this? Or direct me to literature that I can provide to the Chevy dealer?

Deb....Look at the top of this page to the sticky that reads "Column Lock letter from GM (merged). Do some reading on the topic to find out if your car is eligible and what you need to do if it is.
Mine has had 2 of the recall "FIXES" I still get the occasional "remove key wait 10 seconds". I have a CLB that I plan to install soon. In your case I think BVETTE7 has the most reasonable plan of action!!
I am pretty sure that all the free column lock recalls expired. You now have to pay, unless their fix is still "under 12 month warrenty". It would not hurt to call GM Service to plead your case, but I doubt they will help.
