The air blows thru all the vents on my 1998 corvette and I am unable to direct the air thru specific vent such as the dash or floorboard. A mechanic thinks the problem is most likely a vacume line that has broken or fallen off. Has anyone had that problem that can direct me where to hunt down the problem so I can repair it
Yeah man, It happens. There is a tiny 3/16" plastic line that comes out of the firewall at the upper passenger side of the intake. It connects to the rear of the intake just next to the map sensor. If you can pull the intake off. It would make it easier to extend that plastic line then connect it into the intake then reinstall the intake. Then presto your vents will work. Good luck bro.
Nitrous Charlie--Sounds like great advise except I just removed the passenger side fuel rail cover and cant see the line--believe me I looked. Is the line and/or connector compleatly hidden from view behind the intake. Thanks for the direction
Ok: Were you trying to direct me to the kick panel on the passenger side to find the plastic vacum line. I looked there and cant find anything obvious, looks as if it will have to be obvious for me to find. Again, thanks for the advice.
The line comes up from the back of the engine to the rear of the intake (it is an a grouping of lines). It is very small and you will more than likely need to remove the intake manifold.
Do a search on this forum; recently a member wrote a good post on the AC vacuum line and other components that may be the culprit.
I don't know for sure, but doesn't it go under the battery tray? A friend of mine had a problem when his battery leaked, It dripped on the line and caused a leak if I remember what he was saying...
The vacuum manifold that controls the dampers is located on the passenger side footwell to the right of the blower motor, if memory serves me right. Long manifold with various color tubing coming off of it and running to the various dampers.
No, it's not from under the battery tray. That's something else. If you pull the intake off, which to be honest really isn't that bad of a job. But when it's off you'll see the little plastic line. And as you go to put the intake back in place you'll reach back and plug it in just next to the MAP sensor. Where do you live. I'd be more then happy to help ya or direct you to someone who could help ya.
Well I've always wanted to go back packing there. lol. Yeah, your not right up the road, sorry bro. Yeah this happens. When people pull there intake off and dont totallty secure the line then it vibrates off and you loose your vent controls. Crazy huh. Hope you get it fixed.
Turned out to be a problem with the vacum line under the battery tray and yes the line was trashed due to acid from the battery. Its now replaced and the air blows where directed. Thanks to all the info on this common problem---it was much appreciated.
