How to strip clear-coat from OEM polished wheels?
Guys, the clear-coat on my 2003's polished wheels has picked up some marks from wheel-weight shifting/removal. I'd like to strip all the clear-coat; don't mind occasionally polishing the wheels. Is there a safe way to go about this? The paint strippers I have all warn about application on aluminum and I don't want to use anything too harsh. Thanks, Ralph Boineau in central South Carolina

I would polish out the weight marks with wet sanding.......aircraft stripper in the spray can works on removing the clear. Get the spray can, in the gallons you can't put it on thick enough.........bear of a job for me which is why if I attempted it again I'd use the spray cans and get it on really thick...........

Many of the home improvement type paint strippers will darken the aluminum, hence the warnings. Find a good automotive paint supply vendor for products.
An aircraft paint stripping product might be an option...
