I have just finished the rocking seat fix on my 98 with 80K miles and I noticed the foam was cut by the wires thereby making for a more uncomfortable ride. I decided to try a fix that would improve this without being to difficult or expensive. I spent four dollars for the foam piece.
Step 1. (after the seat is out) was to remove the rings and loosen the springs. I did not take a picture showing how I loosened the springs when I started so I have added one at the bottom.
Step 2. Cut a piece of foam
Step 3. Pull the foam between the wires and the bottom.
Step 4. Reinstall the springs.
Step 5. Retie the seat cover bottom and reinstall the rings. Your done!
I took this picture just to show how I removed the springs. The file grabs the spring and keeps it from sliding around. Be careful to avoid pinch points.
Thanks to all you folks who go to the effort to post on this forum. It really helps.
I did the same thing with a little twist. I duct taped the foam where the wires were touching so they did not cut into the foam so fast. Gave a little more support too.
