Headlight System from germany with halogen or xenon
Hello Corvette enthusiasts,
I’m Member of the German equivalent of this Corvette forum, the http://corvetteforum.de.
I want to show you some appetizers of a development to the headlights system
of the corvette. It was developed by a few members as a reaction of the request for better light in the C5 of many other forum members.
On the following pictures you can see a "made in Germany" headlights system with
Halogen H7/H9 or Xenon/H9.
Main advantage is that the kit keeps the original pop up headlights but reduces the
angle of aperture to only 4 inches (10 centimeters) measured at the front corner.
It gives you a light improvement compared to stock lights, especially in the xenon
version.
In Germany, we had to add an extra cleaning system for the xenon lights. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwn4plzIVh8 )
This is integrated into the headlights (required by the German Technical Inspection Agency).
This is not necessary in the US. (the C6 has no cleaning system)
At the moment there are about 30 Corvettes in Germany running around with these headlights.
Please have a look at the pictures.
Many greetings from Germany,
Birger

Very cool. Are you guys looking to market these over here or are you just gonna tease us? And how did you manage to allow the headlight to only open at that angle? Was it a simple gear change? Is this a modification of the stock housing? Details man, we need details.

Thanks,
we are looking for an contact to bring these conversion kit to you.
It's no problem, because we can change the light modules with modules for the US market (all build from Hella)
The headlights open at that angle because we deliver a new shorter coupling bar (the one between the headlight contruction and the eccentric on the gear motor) and new mechanical end stops.
Additional you get a new front casing (glass fibre).
The lights modules are build into a module mounting build from steel which is powder coatet.
It is possible to restore the original headlights, because there is no permanent modification (for example to the case or to the mount)
Give me some time, I've started to translate all of our documentation and instruction manuals.

Birger,
I would be interested in a system with European right-hand-rule (German) lenses. I would want German HID low beam bulbs and PIAA 135w or 150w Halogen or Xenon high beam bulbs, and a wiring harness with relays that would adapt said system to my C5.
I do not want U.S. wattage, bulbs, or lenses.

I'm sure it preforms well. German headlamps tend to be awesome.
For asthetics, i have to say that the car looks drunk however it it the best pop-up solution i've yet seen.

i have a few questions for the OP.
are these lights required to only open half way? or is that an option?
if the light doors do open all the way, will the light beam point too high?
do you have any closer, more detailed pics?

Burning Brakes
I used to have an RX-8 with Zenon lights. Awsome on flat ground but when in the HILLS where I live they have a very sharp light/no light line. As you roll up and down the hills it was a complete joke. It was VERY distracting to say the least. Will these have the same issue?

OK if the price isn't too crazy, you can count on me for a kit purchase. This is the best solution I have seen yet. Beam pattern will be as good as the projector housing used, and I would assume in Germany they are using great housings. Plus, they look to be independently adjustable.
Hopefully you will make the kit with and without the washer. I hope you have this kit for sale here by spring!

Hello,
thank you for your interest!
I'll answer all the questions in the next days.
Today we have weekend here in germany and fantastic weather conditions.
I think that would be the last chance so drive some kilometers with my corvette.
Tomorrow I'll start to answer the questions.
By the way: Here is the complete Thread of the development process, starting only with some ideas and photoshop models, going to construction and prototyping and building the final kits.
It's only in the german language (sorry about that) but you can see a lot of pictures.
