Trans/ diff brace. Reason being, it holds the two togeather under extreme torque. The other brace mentioned,I believe is more for wheel hop. Wheel hop in most cases is from older tires, where they have lost their stickiness. There can be plenty of thread left, but if they are more than three yrs old, in most cases they don't grip much . Good luck.
I think it depends on what you do with your car.
Mine is strictly street, so I went with the pfadt trans mount.
If you are going to race it, I would go with the DTE.
It depends if your using a m6/12 or a4. With the manual start with the dte. Btw ECS also makes one for the manual. The auto will not need the brace if your using the later case.
DTE brace will bolster the strength of the transmission to differential joint. This is a weak point in the design. Pfadt support won't stop wheel hop. Last time I went to my tuner he had a car in there where this brace was purchased under that assumption, lets just say by the puddle on the floor it didn't help.
If you're going to spend money to improve your car, get something that gives a real benefit. The DTE is a proven device that makes engineering cents of why it works and of what it does. There are many devices on the market that look cool, flashy color schemes that don't really provide anything and in some cases even degrade performance.
I would go with a DTE because the trans to diff connection is a weak point on the C5. The only downside I see to this brace it that it appears, from the failures I've seen reported, that the output shaft of the trans is the first thing to fail and that it breaking destroys everything else. So, the output shaft can still break but still, the DTE will sometimes save the case. It's likely the brace will also stabilize the diff so it isn't flexing and putting side loads on the trans output shaft so the output shaft is less likely to break.
The Pfadt brace is supposed to stabilize the diff against side to side accelerating and decelerating torque. The only thing is there is no side to side rotating torque in a C5 drivetrain. The torque tube cancels it out between the engine and the differential. Think about this though, when accelerating the motor tries to lift pulling on it's mounts and the diff will push down compressing it's mount. So, if you wheel hop the rubber mounts will let the drivetrain "bounce" which will likely make the problem worse. Adding a stiffer mount to the diff could help.. I haven't tried it so I can't say, but it would make sense that an improvement could be made.
