Not Your Average Axle Leak
SO i have been having a lot of problems with my LR axle seal leaking. i know it the seal and not the o-ring. i put a seal in it and it leaked again. when removing the fill plug i noticed a hissing sound, so i replaced the vent, and a 2nd seal. Still leaks. i am stumped. it has aftermarket axles(in the trans itself not the CV shafts) in it, so im going to go that route next. I used the GM seal driver and also checked the CV axles for any scorring/nicks/burs. wheel bearing seems fine and also when i spun the wheel when it was on jack stands couldnt see any significant play at the diff. please help me out. this this is suprising leaking quite a bit and i really dont want to drive it this way. thanks

The side cover on the rear diff is the usual suspect. I did my axle shaft seals but also did the sealant fix on the left side rear diff cover.

When you took the fill plug out did you have a slignt vacuum or a slight pressure in the diff??? The vent plug allows pressure to excape but not to re-enter. When it cools down it keeps the diff under a slight vacuum and that helps to prevent leaks.
I would wipe down the entire differential and then examine where the oil comes from.
