Default Need help diagnosing running rich at idle and cruise

My wideband 02 is showing that my car is running a little rich at idle and cruise (~14.2). At idle it also runs a little rough (like it has a mild cam). After a WOT run the idle seems to smooth out for a while.

I am replacing my stock exhaust with AR headers in case clogged cats are the reason. I checked the resistance of plugs and plug wires and they seem fine. I am going to check the resistance of my fuel injectors.

What else could be causing my car to run rich?
  • Faulty wideband? I have an Innovate LC1. I may replace the sensor. Could it be reading wrong?
  • Faulty Front 02's?
  • Coil packs? How do you check these?
  • MAF
need a cleaning?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I wouldn't call 14.2:1 rich.

Hmm, others seem to be running around 14.6. So i thought I am running about .5 to rich.

14.7 is stoic... (ideal). It is better to be a little rich than a little lean! I would not worry about .5 myself.

The PCM constantly fights for stoich. The "actual" exhaust stream AFR is more closely tied to 02 sensor effectiveness. If your factory narrowbands are reading rich, they will add to your injector pulse width until they read 14.6-14.7. The only instance where this can not happen is if the narrowbands detect rich/lean greater than 25%. In that case, it'll set a DTC. You didn't mention any codes and I'm not sure .5 would cause one to be set.

So... in short.. your 02 sensors are either getting unmetered air from a leak between the head and 02 sensor (or just after the 02) or one is lazy. Where is the WB02 located? Can you move it bank to bank? Can you average your cross counts from each 02 sensor and post the % difference between banks?
