I'm talking to my local "Corvette Dr" who offers Melrose headers (1 3/4) with cats for $1895.00 + $400 for install + $350 for tune ($50.00 off since I buying headers from him) for my 2000 LS1 A4. I see LG with a set for $1495.00 + $300.00 for the cats...He said he would install the LG's if I brought em in. He only uses Melrose, however, and I got the impression he's partial to Melrose for whatever reason.
I dont know of any other pro's out there in my area to do this work (Tampa Bay, Fl area) and this is pretty much my first serious inquiry about having this done..So far I'm seeing $100.00 difference with the LG's but shipping obviously hasn't been added in so basically it's about the same $$ the way I see it....... Anyway..any thoughts on this from you all would be appreciated in regards to these two headers.....thanks..Pauly

Yep, Melrose is still making steel headers. I don't care if they are coated or not, I would not pay $2000 for steel headers. Of course you'll get the usual rap about how stainless headers are more prone to cracking than steel....blah blah blah.
If you are going with 1 3/4 headers, why not just go with LG streets. $1200 out the door with cats.

I have the LG Streets on my C5 and have had no problems in 2 years since installing them.. they fit great and look to be very good quality..
and with a LS6 intake and tune they woke up the LS1 very nicely...
Melrose Headers vs. LG Street Headers is NOT an "Apples to Apples" comparison based on HP and TQ improvements. You need to compare prices with the LG Pro Series. They are both quality headers - I owned a set of LG Pros and have seen the Melrose headers on a friends C5 Z06.
Oh boy another header war starting, I can see it now
There has never been a TRUE Apples to Apples comparsion here, that is NON-bias toward one or the other. Most tuners I spoke to said all the long tube headers are virtually making about the same power. Every car will respond a little different to each header.
Sure you can argue all day about a 5 or 6hp or torque difference, but unless you track your car all the time, its not going to make a difference.
Everyone I know is happy with Melrose headers and have picked up between 20 and 25hp depending on other supporting mods.
Both brands of headers seem to be good quality and performance, but the Melrose seems too expensive for a plain steel header. LG has had the complete street system frequently on sale for $1095 and that's for a complete stainless system, fully polished, with cats and great customer support. I'd give them a call and see what they'll do for you. I've got my system on for a year and my car gets lots of miles put on it with no problems. BTW, all that work and a $50 discount on the tune?
Thanks all for the responses...I certainly didnt mean to start a "header war" as Im sure its been done before...The LG's are a bit cheaper and although feedback on both was great..I think I've made up my mind...thanks again.
