I'm wondering what guys with stock LS6 oil pumps are seeing for max oil pressure on the gauge. I'm not sure what the stock oil pump's pressure relief setting is ... maybe 70 ~ 75 psi?

Here's an example of my '02 Z06 - and the data I'm looking for:

Oil: Mobil 1 5W-30
Filter: NAPA Gold
Max Oil Press: 65 psi
Conditions: Oil @ 200 F and 4000 RPM

I don't seem to see more than 65 psi even at RPM above 4000 ~ 4500. with 200+ deg F oil.

To get a good max oil pressure reading, you have to stay at a constant high RPM for a while since the gauge system is somewhat slow to react.

Any inputs would be welcome - thanks.

Anyone have an idea of what your max oil pressure on the DIC (or gauge) is with hot oil (200 ~ 200 F on the DIC)?

Next time you're out on the open road, pop it up to 5000 RPM in 3rd gear and hold it for 30 seconds to get a steady oil pressure reading. I'd be interested to know what other LS6s are seeing.

I have an LS1 and I see 65 PSI as well.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the LS1 & LS6 probably have the same oil pump and basic oiling system - maybe someone can say for sure. If so, then I'd expect the LS1s to run the same max oil pressure.

JCamaro - was the max of 65 psi with Mobil 1 5w-30? .... and what oil filter were you using at the time? Thanks for the input.
