Noob needs some help with finding fuel sending unit problems
My vette has some fuel sending issues, fuel gauge does not work, and cannot pump gasoline into the tank at a normal rate. IT would take only 0.20 gallons at a time, before overfilling..and i have to let it settle in for about 1 minute or so, before the fuel goes down, and then I pump 0.20 gallons or so more.
DOes this sound familiar ? Can someone point me to the search or link to the thread that addresses this issue ? A fellow vette fan pointed me to the tech section, but I tried to search for fuel gauge and fuel problems, but did not find the one concerning my problem.
any insight or link would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Treat your car with Techron fuel treament. You can read about it here: Techron
It might take two or three treatments, but it will fix the issue and much cheaper then the $1,800 plus to have the sending units replaced.

Vehicle is Difficult to Fill with Fuel or Filling Station Pump Shuts Off Before Tank is Full (Replace Tank Filler Hose) #04-06-04-031 - (Apr 22, 2004)
Vehicle is Difficult to Fill with Fuel or Filling Station Pump Shuts Off Before Tank is Full (Replace Fuel Tank Filler Hose)
1997-2004 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition
Some customers may comment that their vehicle is difficult to fill with fuel or when filling, the pump continuously shuts off before the tank is full.
Cause
This condition may be caused by back pressure within the fuel filler hose. This back pressure trips the fuel nozzle prior to filling the tank, or results in a hard to fill condition.
Correction
Replace the fuel tank filler hose with P/N 10353139. This new hose has been redesigned to provide smoother flow conditions within the section. Use the procedure listed below.
Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in the General Information sub-section of the Service Manual.
Remove the left rear tire and wheel.
Remove the left rear wheelhouse panel.
Loosen the lower hose clamp through access hole in body using ¼ drive ratchet and extension.
Loosen the upper hose clamp.
Remove the fuel tank filler hose.
Install the new fuel tank filler hose.
Tighten the upper hose clamp. Tighten
Tighten the fuel filler hose clamp to 4N·m(35 lb in).
Tighten the lower hose clamp through access hole in body using ¼ drive ratchet and extension. Tighten
Tighten the fuel filler hose clamp to 4N·m(35 lb in).
Install the left rear wheelhouse panel.
Install the left rear tire and wheel.
Lower the vehicle.
Parts Information
I have a 2004 vette Z06 with many mods. Twim turbo, engine increased to 7.0 liter , and builder said that there is a 5 gallon front gas tank to feed the twin fuel pumps in front.
I placed one and half bottle of techron additive. Drove to union 76...tried to add premium gas...but cannot completely stick the fuel pump nozzle into the tank... so I tried to use my fingers to pull the rubber pump seal back..then squeeze the handle...and a little bit of gas goes in...but quickly overflows and drips out of the tank opening.
IS this the filler hose problem ? or is it fuel sender problem ?
I understand that fuel sender pump is expensive.
thanks

My fuel guage sometimes reads empty although I have plenty of gas in the tank. This just started happening again to me EVEN after I had both sending units replaces under TS bulletin years ago.
I will add that using Techron has helped to have my guage read full when it is actually full.
My current guage problem seems to appear after five gallons used and after restarting the car the issue then goes away until the next full tank and use of 5 gallons?
Weird. Hope you get it all worked out as it is nerve racking to be driving with no confidence you will know when you actually need gas.
Well, I drove 15 miles to next gas station off freeway, at a MObil station.,,,and now can only add 1.5 gallons. The station manager came over to help....and after 30 minutes..we were able to dribble in a total of 6 gallons of fuel.
I then drove 40 miles to Lost Hills, and dribbled in another 1.5 gallons. And that is what happened the rest of the trip...drive 50 miles, stop for 30 minutes to pump only 1.5 gallons, and so on and so forth. Took me 10 hours to drive what I normally do in a minivan or slow diesel jetta only 5 hours....argh !!!!!!!!!
You are absolutely correct, all of you.....that it is a pain to drive and not know where you are in terms of fuel ? Do I have enough to get home ? Do I have enough to get to next gas station....and finally do I have enough to get to next freeway exit ??!!?
Well, I tried to pump some fuel this week, after adding 2 bottles of Techron ..... but can only manage 0.25 gallons now. SO I cannot even get more than that...even though it should be nearly empty.
Will bring it in to mechanic.
Had no idea such a nice car....top of line best US made sports car....had this prevalent problem and GM never stood up to the plate to repair or inspect the numerous vehicles that have this problem....
sorry for the rant.....
However, it would seem like a group of people do have this problem....but I have never heard of such fueling issues ever in any vehicle. Personal experience only , which does not mean much.
Thanks byronhunter....
I will forward all the info that I have gathered to my mechanic this week.
will update you all ....
