I started getting the gas smell a few weeks ago near the driver's side rear wheel on my '98 A4 coupe. Based on advice in the Forum, took a chance, bought a new AC Delco fuel filter ($21). Took a look under the car, and sure enough, it was a leaky filter. Took about 45 minutes to jack up the car, remove the rear wheel, get under the car on a creeper and replace the filter (oh yeah... and put the put the wheel back on). Didn't need to loosen exhaust. And thanks to my neighbor, a former Chevy mechanic, who actually did the work!

I have a very small amount of gas that has leaked on my 99 c5 on the RIGHT side shield on the gas tank, if the filter is on the left what is leaking on mine?

Right side sending pump, bottom of right side tank... just replaced the gasket on mine...
