Default Extremely high oil pressure

A few days ago I was driving and I got on the gas a little and let off. All of a sudden my oil pressure was over 100 psi. The only reason I can think this might have happened is a few days before I added a quart of oil because my oil level was down almost to the add line on the dip stick. Can anyone help me out with this problem. I'm thinking about goign to get my oil changed just to make sure that's all fine but I feel like that might now do anything.

Oil pressure sensor is going or gone, there are numerous write ups on this issue. It will not hurt the car to drive it with a failed sesnor, I myself would get it replaced as soon as possible. If you are going to change the sensor might as well install a relocation kit in the process.

My understanding is a good way to test if the sensor is bad is when the car is parked turn the key to "Run" and see if the oil pressure maxes out. If it does max out then in all likelihood the sensor is bad.

This is exactly what's happening to me. But when I Go to the digital display it shows the psi in excess of 100 psi but when the car is driving the psi rapidly climbs even at super low rpm. When I go back to neutral it slowly drops but still stays at about 95-100 psi. I was looking to try and find some posts about oil pressure sensors but I couldn't find any. Can anyone lead me to some? Also does anyone know about how much a new sensor and relocation cost? Is it DIY?

Simple to pull the intake and do this. There is a sticky at the top of this section.

Ok so I think this is a bigger problem than I thought. When I just turned to key to "on" with out turning the car on it was at a normal 40 psi but when I turned it on it immediately went to 88 psi.
Is it possible that the other day when I added oil it caused the pressure to be too high? Any other suggestions on what this could be?

Its probably still a failed sensor as when the engine is off there should be no oil pressure. Although mine shot directly up to 130 psi whether it was off or on.

I'm thinking my problem has to be when the oil enters the engine. Why else would it be normal then the key is at the on position and then 88+ when I turn the car on and then when I got on the gas it would climb about 100

The oil pressure sending unit is going bad and this is a very common issue on all models of the C5. You should see 0psi with the key turned to the on position and the engine not running.. Its impossible to have normal 40 psi without the engine running... It would be like getting a pulse from a person thats been dead for 3 days.. The heart has to be beating to get a pulse the same as an engine (oil pump) has to be running to get a oil pressure reading on the gauge or on the heads up display

That what happens when the oil pressure sending unit goes totally go out.. The gauge stays pegged at 130psi. This will happen to SFL very shortly.. As far as I'm concerned its toast already

Why didn't I realize that? Ok so I guess that means it's also safe to drive since it's just the sensor. Hopefully I can pick one up soon. And put it in.

Yea mine definitely was the sensor, had it replaced when the blower was installed (this happened to me 2 years ago) and after that it read just fine. Just trying to tell the OP that it was probably still the sensor since he was getting pressure with the motor off, guess you explained it better than me

Good luck OP

Thanks everyone for the help. I've been under a lot of stress lately and the last thing I needed was to worry about a serious problem with my car
