Default TCS-C1286H(Steering Sensor Bias Malfunction)"Service Active Handling"

Anyone who understands the EBCM and specifically the steering wheel position sensor, I have been having difficulty trouble-shooting my active handling problem.

History: "Service Vehicle Soon, Service Active Handling" used to come up intermitently (quicker when it was cold for some reason). Well, I finally decided to try and fix the problem. I originally had 1287H (Steering Sensor Rate Malfunction),1288H (?). I figured it was a steering wheel sensor problem. I had that fixed and the problem was still there. After clearing the codes C1281 remained. The mechanic said he traced all related wires and connect ions from steering wheel position sensor to EBCM and found EBCM to be open internally. Basically the signal was getting to the EBCM but was getting screwed there. So, I took out the EBCM and sent it to David Ruberg "digitalguy". It came back in a week and I prompty installed it. . The following codes showed after installation TCS-C1287H
TCS-C1288H TCS-U1000H SDM-U1000H SDM-U1040H SDM-U1096H SDM-U1064H and LDCM-B2264H. When I drove it it became apparent that as soon as I made any steering input the brakes started acting funny. I had to turn the active handling off to drive home safely. I cleared the codes once more to see what keep poping up and now I only have TCS-C1286H (Steering Sensor Bias Malfunction). I think I need to buy a new EBCM, whatever David fixed wasn't my particular problem. The steering wheel definitely trips the problems.

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Tim (2001 Z06)

Is your steering wheel still centered when moving forward in a straight line? It could be an alignment issue?

I've already considered this. My steering wheel is set straight. But from what I've learned the steering wheel position system doesn't care where "straight" is anyway. It uses an algorithm to determine what "straight" is everytime you turn your car on to take into account steering wheel mis-alignment. Any other ideas?

Yes, you kind of got me there, was thinking more of alignment.

From the manual:
It is very important to check the vehicle for proper alignment. The car should not pull in either direction while driving straight on a flat surface.

It is very important to find out from the driver when the code was set, (when the SERVICE ACTIVE HNDLG message was activated). This information may help to duplicate the failure.

It is very important that a thorough inspection of the wiring and connectors be performed. Failure to carefully inspect wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis, causing part replacement with reappearance of the malfunction. Check connector C102 RH side rear of engine compartment for water intrusion or missing plugs, and that the connector is oriented horizontal to prevent water intrusion.

An intermittent malfunction is most likely caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.

The vehicle alignment is pretty darn good. As far as the driver, I think it was me. It started very intermittent when I first go the car and has gradually gotten more common. Can u give me more details on where connector C102 is? That's the kind of help I was looking for because I think it might be a bad connection somewhere that's gotten worse.

I'm sorry guys but could I get a more practical point out? I am thinking it's back by the battery but don't see a matching number from what's been written.
thanks,
Tim
