Default Goodridge Stainless steel brake line install question.

Where do you place the copper washers?

I just received the Brake lines from VBP. These are the lines with the AN end fittings. The package came with the lines, clips, some male/male transition fittings (to attach to the calipers) and four copper washers. Now on banjo bolt fittings their appear to be two copper washers. The washers go on each side of each banjo fitting (eight total for four calipers). This doesn't apply on the VBP brake lines. I believe these are crush washers, and I don't want to damage them by installing them in the wrong place.

I have the same lines and haven't installed yet.

Also, I've seen many threads asking about which lines go on the front vs rear, since two are slightly longer. Some say longer on the front due to the slack needed to turn the wheels, and others say longer on the back due to the amount of suspension travel.

Which one is it??

The crush washers go between the caliper and the M10 X 1 to AN fitting. The longer line goes in the rear.

YMMV

Knowles's Z06, I got the lines at Vette Brakes and Products Inc. Just do an interent search for VBP, their website will be one of the first on the list of the search page.

David A, thanks for clarifying this. Have you installed these lines? I've read virtually every thread about this installation. Most posters say to put the longer lines on the rear. But some disagree. Then one has to wonder what some people consider longer vs. short. However, the VBP lines have 90 degree angle tubing on the ends of two lines and 45 degree tubing at the ends of the other two. The easiest way to clarify which line goes where is to determine where do the lines with the 90 degree ends go?

Yes, I have these lines on my '03 Z06. I can say for certain, at least for me, the longer lines must go on the rear in order to clear the factory cooling ducts.

Finally did some thurough cleaning of my wheels today, and took some pictures of the powder coated calipers. It was partially overcast today so the light wasn't very good. So here is what they look like.

On a side note, let me tell you when cleaning these wheels, there is no end to the brake dust. I clean them off, then went over them with more buffing compound and a white terry cloth. It was black after a few strokes. I spent about 2-1/2 hours buffing the wheels (even taking them off the car). I could probably spend another 2-1/2 hours on them and still be cleaning brake dust off.

As for length its pretty simple, just measure the length of the lines and compare front/rear and it will be obvious which end gets which length. For my C-6, the longer lines are in the front. My shorter Goodrich lines are longer than the rear short lines, and the long lines compare equally between Goodrich and OEM.

It's worth mentioning that accurately torquing the banjo bolt to spec is critical. It's threaded into aluminum so it's not hard to overtighten and strip.
