ABS, Traction Control & "Serv Eng soon" lights
My car was in the shop for air-conditioner repair. The battery would not start the car, so they put in a new battery. When I picked up the car and still to this point am getting warning lights on ABS, Traction Control and "Service Engine Soon". I checked codes and got:
10 PCM = P1571 HC
28TCS = No Comm
58 SDM = U1040 HC.
I would greatly appreciate some help. I no longer have my favorite repair guy.

Hmm I cannot remember my exact codes but I know that some relay in my ebcm went out and I had to get it repaired. Not bad. 50$ and a lifetime wqarranty and easy to replace. Only difference is my trac control, active handling, and abs lights came on but no serv engine light. Sorry if this didnt help but i thought id toss two pennies out there!

I assume you are talking about an 03. The year can make a difference in the diagnosis. P1571HC (with the C meaning current indicates) there is a problem with the requested torque signal from the EBCM to the PCM. The fact that you also have a no comm situation with the EBCM could be why there is a problem with that signal. Since somebody was working in that area of the car I would start by checking the wiring to the EBCM to make sure somebody didn't disconnect a connector or damage the wiring harness going across the front of the engine. The harness is fastened to the fan shroud so it could be damaged in the AC repair process depending on what was done.

First, This doesn't have anything to do with the relay which causes C1214.

Service engine soon and Service active handling
First check to see you have no corosion in the connections to the ECBM. That could be the problem. If the connections look O.K. then have the ECBM checked and repaired if necessary. If you continue getting these two messages have the sensors checked. There are about 15 or 17 throughout the car. One of these is bad. I know because this happened to me two weeks ago. I had the ECBM repaired and later the sensors checked. The sensor which gave service engine and active handling was located at the base of the steering wheel on the engine side of the firewall. Yes, the wheel must be pulled to get at it. Although this sensor is only about eighty bucks from GM, there's a lot of labor involved. My traction control is working again also.

There are 4 ground leads that need to be cleaned, or better replaced. Beneath the battery, and behind each headlight there are ground posts that often corrode. You can try and sand them etc but often time guys get self tapping hex head screws and use those to re-ground everything. There was an additional ground in back as well dont recall where the post is located.
Try that first, I had a similar behavior

Here is MY problem and its solution that may be beneficial to others.
I had four codes present: p1277, p1689, 1040, and 1571 and occasional TCS No Comm. They were random in nature and would appear at different times.
By doing Bill's checks suggested above with a multimeter, I realized that ABS fuse #5 in the engine compartment fuse panel was only sometimes reading voltage. But the fuse looked fine and was not burned out. I replaced with a new 10A one and the problems went away. To make sure that it was the cause, I turned ignition ON with the new fuse removed. Same TCS no comm ABS light came on.
Hope that it will solve my issues, but I guess time will tell. Have an autox event this coming Sunday. Ultimate litmus test!

Hi! I am new to this forum and on my C5 the ABS and Traction Control are out. A place I took it to said it couldn't be fixed, that they don't make the parts etc. I have a 1976 I can figure out a lot of things but this one is like a space ship. What are my first steps to getting it fixed ( other than not taking it back to that shop ) Thank you!

OK, dumb question.. If I clear these codes will it work again? I can tell I don't have traction in the back end when someone at a red light invites me to race and when I do the back end is all over the place. Thank you!

Search in this forum for EBCM. I recently had the same problem. When the warning lights are on, your car does not have working anti-lock brakes, traction control and active handling. The solution for me was re-soldering the five relay terminals. Clearing the codes won't fix the problem.
