Default How do I remove this shifter ****?

I am trying to install a new shifter **** on the vett and for the life Of me, I can't figure out how to remove this ****. I looked for any pins, holes ect and their appear to be none. I have the B&M Ripper shifter installed. I have tried pulling up, turning left/right ect, and overall muscling the hell out of it. I can get it to turn about a 1/4 to the right and that's about it. Everything also seems directly connected to the shifter base and not off to the side (removable shifter bar) like the Mustang shifters. Any ideas?

If its a stock C5 ****,,pry out the shift pattern plate on top of the ****. Under the plate you will see an aluminum T shapped Key. Grip the key with a small pair of vise grips and tap UP on the vise grips with a small hammer to extract the key. Once the key is out, the **** will unscrew.

If you use search or search this thread (in the red banner) in C5 Tech, use "demon key" as keywords. Many threads will have not only descriptive tutorial, but also images.

Prepare for lots of reading...

Sorry, I forgot to add the picture. I did a SEARCH and only tuned up info on the stock ****. The **** is not the stock ****. I only wish it was the stocker and it would make things so much easier.

Look under the ball & see if there is a locking nut up against it. if there is you have to loosen it from the ball then you should be able to unscrew the ball I have the 8 ball **** on mine & thats how it is. Good luck.

Then it's possibly either secured with a jamb nut as mentioned above, or a very small allen head set screw. Look carefully around the base of the **** for the set screw.

If you don't find either of those, it's possible someone used LOCTITE on the threads.

I didn't see anything like that. I wonder if the past owner put some stuff on the ***** threads to make it permanent. But why would it turn slightly to the right if that's the case. Doesn't make any sense.

That's why I suggested looking for a set screw. When a set screw slightly loosens against the threads, it will allow for minute movement. It's usually because the set screw has deformed the threads slightly.

Pull the boot up and over the ****. Be careful not to break the plastic trim ring at the bottom of the boot. The trim rings are not available separately. With the boot folded over the top of the ****, you may find that **** has a machined collar at the bottom. That may be where the set screw is hidden from your view.

It could very well have had Loctite 271 or equivalent threadlocking adhesive applied to its threads. That is typically loosened only after heat application. If they used Loctite 242, then a heavy hand should be able to uncrew the ****.

After you attached the pictures, They Probably used locktite. Use a heat gub and heat the SHAFT to about 140 deg and (use gloves) grab the ball and give it hell. Make sure that you turning it counter clock wise.
