Default exhaust and horsepower

Fellow C-5 owners I have a 2000 coupe 6sp. transmission with a callaway cold air induction as the only after market device. I am interested in changing the stock mufflers and pipe from the cat back. What is the best performing brand and how much of a gain in horsepower/torque can I realistically expect?? also who is the best/less expensive dealer to buy from. ? thanks jp.

Zero. It's all about the sound.

Very subjective.....it's all about one's taste...and age ....

I have corsa pace car....which sounds perfect for me.

No offense, but you gotta be a noob. Topic's been done to death. Search for catback choices, and get links to sound bites/opinions. You will get more threads to read than there are stars in the sky.

IMO:

best sound/lightest = z06 Ti
"best sound" = corsa pace
loudest = b&b bullets (or straight pipes)
best option = stock! (never pay for something that makes no power. Might as well buy a huge spoiler or something...)

I think I read somewhere that you get around 2 - 3 HP from a catback, so don't do it for the power. I have Borla Stinger Quad Tips and I love them. This is really subjective and you could read for months if all you did was search for "which exhaust" on this forum. Here are some to consider

Corsa Pace Car - Louder than touring, but not that loud. Almost Stock at Idle. Very nice exotic note at WOT.

Corsa Touring - Pretty much the same as stock in my experience as far as volume. Maybe a more exotic note...

Borla Stingers - I'm biased here, so take this one with a grain of salt. Muscle car rumble at idle, screams at WOT, not too loud so as to prevent a conversation in a normal tone of voice. Some have reported bad drone around 1300 - 1800 RPMS, but I haven't experienced it.

GHL Bullets - About the same as the stingers, but apparently eliminate the problem with the drone that some have.

B&B Bullets - LOUD, let me reiterate LOUD But for some, loud is good...

These are the only one's I have heard in person, there are others... Good luck in your search.

PLEASE find some local fellow C5 owners that already have an aftermarket exhaust system installed and take a ride in their car. If you like the sound, COPY that set up + engine mods. Automatic ver manual tranny makes a difference too!

If you purchase the wrong system you will get drone and life will SUCK! Unless you enjoy DRONE!

The BEST SOUND is very very subjective it isn’t funny. Loud to you may be quite to me and the other way around.

Like it was already stated, you get minimal gains from a cat back system 3-5 hp on a good day and maybe 10 with high flow cats installed. The OEM C5 exhaust is not that restrictive.

Below are a couple dynos showing 10-12 rwhp gains with catback only before after results with catback only. Also in my research I have seen some members on this board with C5 manuals with catback only dyno higher vs stock exhaust manual. IMO from research there seems to be a pick up of rwhp with a catback only system imo anywhere from 8-12rwhp depending on the system.

LT headers and proper X-pipe produce the HP. Mufflers are for sound. a good set of low restriction high flow mufflers will help hp, but that is almost limited to Borla Stingers and straight pipes.

Here is an article from Corvette Fever about the Corsa Ti "race" system with proven gains.

http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/73978/index.html

I just so happen to have one I might be willing to part with.

i agree with the first post of no gain in power. The only way you might gain some is with replacing the manifolds to the tips. And that power could only be accessed by replacing the intake and heads because you can only exhale what you breathe in!

My 02Z gained ~12 horsepower on the same dyno on the same day back to back runs before/after the Corsa with no other changes.
