Dropping new motor in; torque tube rebuild?
The motor’s out from lifter failure. I’m going to address the torque tube while everything’s disassembled. Do I need to drop rear subframe since the motor’s out? Can I unbolt the torque tube from the transmission and slide forward and down in the engine bay? FYI the front subframe has been dropped to help clear the oil pan when I removed the motor..

I can say the answer is no for an auto trans car. I tried.
The rear bellhousing runs into the frame. So can't get it over the torque converter.
Unsure on the manual trans.

I'm going to say most likely not. There's not a lot of clearance from where the bellhousing on the TT starts to the frame tunnel, and you'll have to pull it straight forward probably 8-10 inches to get it off the input shaft. Maybe you won't have to take the rear cross-member COMPLETELY out, but you'd definitely have to at least drop it loose to get enough space for the TT to move forward.
The good news is dropping the rear subframe is pretty easy so long as you have the space to do it.
