And how do you determine "hot"? Hot in Chicago after driving for an hour in the summer, is certainly not the same as "hot" after driving for an hour in Phoenix in the summer. So all you can do is check the tire pressure "cold", which at least gives you a baseline temp/pressure.....and yes, cold is clearly defined as the vehicle not being driven for a predetermined amount of time, tires not in direct sunlight, etc. Air pressure in a tire will increase ~1psi for every 10 degree increase in temp.

You would think so, but based on some of the questions posted on this forum, that is obviously not the case. Some people just can't think for themselves, and consequently, can't wipe their own *** without asking the forum how to do it. Some are just too lazy to educate themselves by reading the owners manual. Some people truly don't have any understanding, and that's why GM posts placards so something as simple as tire pressure should be a "no-brainer". It's amazing how some guys will develop a level of comfort, if enough people respond with the same answer.....even if it conflicts with GM recommendations. Supposedly, sheep will follow each other right off a cliff.....sometimes I wonder if you can get humans to do the same thing....

Give you a little credit? you have no idea what the average drivers will interpret things. They buy oil that says 15,000 mile oil, and they drive 2000 miles a year so they dont change their oil for 5 or six years and want GM to back their blown motor. We design things at GM using a process called FMEA.. Failure Modes Effect Analysis, part of this process is trying to determine exactly what the consumer will do with this design, push this outside its design limits etc.. Just look at the credit you speak of.. do a search on people putting 44 psi in their tires because is says so in the sidewall. You see one of the nice things about this forum is that we can fine tune your car for the conditions you see in your area. We on the other hand have to design and build a car that will operate safely anywhere in the world. There is nothing wrong with you questioning me.. If it gives you pleasure to post a commentary based on you opinion and mechanical expertise and feel it is logical, I am very happy for you putting me in my place.
Thank you for your thoughts
Bill aka ET
Thanks for the response ET, but what I find ironic is that we are supposed to follow GM's recommendation on oil changes (go by the OLM or 1 year even if the OLM isn't even close to 0%) and yet disregard the tire pressure recommendation of 30 psi COLD and instead use 30 psi HOT. So many conflicting signals, what are we supposed to do?

In this case, being that Bill ,AKA Evil Twin was one of the engineers that actually developed the C5 Corvette, and being that Bill has given thousands and thousands of Corvette owners on this forum free advice based on his excellent knowledge for many years on this forum, I would say that knowing what I just mentioned, you would take the word of someone who just plain knows what the He77 he is talking about. The ones who have doubted what he has told us in his years of explainations about this vehicle are the ones who don't really know what the he77 they are talking about. Bill states facts based on his knowledge of actually taking part in the engineering of this fine C5 machine. If you cannot trust what he says about the C5 then just go ahead and listen to all of the back yard mechanics who profess to know the C5 better than one of the engineers that built the thing to begin with. There are way too many "educated guessers" with their "common sense remedies" based on their own experiences that confuse Corvette owners here on the forum with their BS opinions on how to resolve mechanical problems.

I speak for many many Vette owners here on this forum when I say that I trust Evil Twin in everything he says about the C5 Corvette...well maybe not everything...he may make one mistake in 10,000 posts
3 cheers for Evil-Twin...one of the CorvetteForum's greatest assets.

ET has been a member of CF way before I was ever a member. He has been a KNOWN respectable contributor of FACTUAL KNOWLEDGE "FOREVER". Hell,,, he helped build the car your driving!

Being that I have reviewed and followed his advice and proven that its correct,,,,,,,,I can HIGHLY recommend you follow his advice. Plain and simple,,,,,,,,,,,he's correct with tire pressure recommendations.

I keep my tire pressure at 28 psi rear cold and 30 psi front cold and have EXCELLENT wear characterics. The way I drive and the way my tires wear ,,it works,,those pressures work excellent for me. You may need to go UP or DOWN a pound or two to optimize your tire wear but, ET has excellent recommended starting points. High pressures make your car ride horrible and accelerate center tire wear!

ET's guide lines will give you excellent over all results. If you start to see abnormal wear,,,you will have to correct mechanical issues or alter the pressures "SLIGHTLY" to compensate for how you drive and if you run different tire sises than OEM.

I stager front to rear pressures because I run wider than stock rear tires. I have 315 TOYO proxis T1Rs on CCW 505a's vs the stock size on the stock rim.
