Default Question for Bill C

Bill,

I've been having issues with my throttle position sensor for some time now,I've replaced 3 of them so far, today as I was out of town about 80 miles it started acting up again so i had to drive home on I-5 in reduced engine power the whole way.So when I get home I get the last TPS that I took off when I had the last problem sprayed it with contact cleaner and installed it,presto I have full power again and no codes! before I did that i did try and reset the codes that were putting me into REP and they would not reset, the codes were 1120 & 1221,i beleive the 1221 is the tps if i remember right,I did nothing else other than install the old TPS.Any ideas.I thought it had something to do with heat but it was a cool day today,my car has a KB S/C'er and i am running meth,I did notice a little bit of liquid when I tok the TPS off at a autoparts store on the way home,I'm sure it was from my injection system, could that be temporary shorting the TPS out? I'm going to run to town and see how the car does with the other TPS since all I've done so far is start it and things seemed fine, the codes all cleared anyway. Thanks for any info you can give.

Bill,

I know you seen this question many times,I did look at the module in the passenger side fender,it looks new and I don't see any rodent or battery acid issues there.I took the shield that all the wires run in to the TPS and did not see any chaffing or bare spots,I also cleaned both the grounds up by the headlights,I know you mentioned that the grounds do not effect the TPS but I did it anyway. So then i started the car and ran it and pulled and moved the wires around and that did nothing, did not set any codes,so i then put the shielding back on the wires and reran it back to the TPS,the one question that I came up with,is there any way that when the wires get hot they could cause my TPS to have this issue, the reason I ask is the wires in the shield are just laying on top of my intake manifold just below the blower,so my question is when electrical wires get hot can they lose some power,I know it sounds stupid but thats the only thing i can see could be causing this, let me know what you think about that.

I cant see hoe THREE TPS sensors are bad so,,,you need to check the following things carefully and closely:

The pins and wires in the TPS connector. Look at the pins with a magnifing glass and MAKE SURE that theres no corrosion and the female pins are NOT spread. If I were you i would go to the dealer or NAPA and see if you can find a male pin thats the exact same thickness of the male pins in the sensor. Insert the male pin in the connector female pins and make sure there is a nice SNUG fit when you insert or extract the male pin.

Make SURE that the wires in the connector female pin is making a 100% copper wire to pin connection. If it were me,,,I would extract the pin and SOLDER the wire to the pin.

Make sure that theres no excessive tension on the cable or the cable is not exposed to any excessive vibration or stress.

Give those things a try and let me know what you find.
