If you already have an 85mm screened MAF there is no need to buy a LS6 screenless MAF. My understanding is that the two have a slightly different calibration, but if you want to run a screenless MAF the screen can be removed, and your tuner can make the necessary adjustments.
I don't know how much the screen affects airflow, but depending on your choice of CAI, it can be benificial. Too much turbulence across the sensor can result in inaccurate measurements and codes being set.
I'm not certain, but I think all the newer gen engines have a screened MAF, so GM obviously thinks that's a better way to go.
Edit:
Your profile says you have an '99 FRC which had a 78mm MAF, so I assume you already upgraded to an 85mm MAF at some point.
No havn't switched them yet I was asking if it is benificial to do that upgrade. sorry i reread that post and know how that can be confusing.
You would also need the adapter harness and the correct size air bridge and coupler, so there is some addditional expenses involved. I think the 78mm MAF can support the mods your doing, so it probably not absolutely necessary. If your looking at buying a used CAI, you will find that most that come up for sale are for the the larger 85mm MAF so the upgrade might give you more options in that department.
You should be above that mark. I have the same mods less the heads on a 2000 Z51 and I am putting down 405 RWHP and 403RWTQ. I bet you will be in the 420-440 range.

I have been busy spending money! got some 1 3/4 Long tubes with a catted xpipe, went to Texas Speed and bought a heads and cam kit from them consisting of the PRC Stg2 LS6 heads and a 228/232 114+4 cam,FAST 78mm intake, mti 25% UD pully, melling hi flow oil pump, ls2 timing set already have a vararam CAI, LS6 intake, and z06 ti catback. then got some bilstien sport shocks (Rather than getting the Z06 rear brake ducts). powerwise i have been told i should be around 400-410 to the wheel after tuning. (which will be done by Ryne at CMS)
Please chime in and let me know what you think, and offer wisdom as i progress i will update with Pics

i just did my testing so im good for a couple of years, i am military so i have the option of regestering my car in my home state of Colorado which has no emmisions testing. so i will be good. but i might be able to keep in clean enough for california sniffer.
Thats so awesome bro Hope your new mods give you that WOW feeling you get for a while the same way we all do when we get our first Vette. ENJOY!!!!
damn i finally got the heads off lol it looks bare in the engine bay. i found that gasket thing it fell in one of the intake ports on the head. hopfully i can pull the pully and front cover off tomorrow. duty today

well i just pulled one of the new heads out of the box and noticed one of the corners is smashed slightly. will this affect the head sealing with the head gasket? This is probobly from shipping because i see tear marks on the outside of the box I will have to get ahold of TSP and see what can be done or if its really that bad of damage. Damn UPS drivers!!!! also went to take the pully bolt loose and HOLY HELL it was already loose I had my pully move and the belts come off about a year and a half ago when the balancer bolt worked itself loose and i had the dealership "repair" it. They told me they replaced the bolt and had the car for 2 days now i think they just tried to retorque the original bolt. if i wasn't doing these mods i wonder how much longer i would have had to go before this went sour again. I really hope the head can be repaired or replaced. heres some pics. when scraping the old gasket off how do you deal with the water jackets in the block? I am having one hell of a week!!
and a couple of my motor with the heads off do you think i should clean those pistons ....I do.

Well i talked with Matt from TSP he said that i could use a file and a straight edge and fix it so thats what im gonna do, its just some cosmetic damage. I can see that its not in any critcal areas at all. man that graphite gasket is gonna kick my ***. i will get back to it when i get home tomorrow afternoon.

Looks good. I think you'll make more than 420 to the ground. While your in there I would upgrade your lifters to the LS7's. They are about $120-$130 from GMPartsHouse.com. While your at it get the LS2 lifter trays they're about $40. I drilled holes in the top of my trays to help oil drain to the pan. You can do a search on this.
I agree with the Trunion Mod as well. I picked up a set from HinsonSuperCars.com for around $120.
You WILL be needing a clutch soon. Mike Yeager at East Coast Performance in South Carolina has a smokin' deal on LS7 clutch kits. I highly recommend Mike for advice and buying parts. His customer service is 2nd to none.
Good Luck with you build!!
I just read that last post...Send the head back. You paid for quality, demand it!!!

well the head is alright i filed it down and hit it with some fine sand paper so its good to go. i already have the upgraded lifters, and i might check into the lifter trays. If i make more than 420 i will be real happy. Yeah i got to wait a bit on the clutch so i will do my best not to beat on it when im finished with the heads and cam. I was thinking more of a spec 2+ or a centerforce DF. Thanks for the comments and recommendations.
