Default A/C Low pressure Line reading High psi.

TEMP OUTSIDE= 78
NORMAL PSI should be = 35-50?
Mine= 115

I just bought a recharge A/C kit and as soon as I plugged the can with a gauge on the line. I automatically read 115 psi. From what I have read in the last quick few mins was either its honestly

If the pressure on the low side is high the following may be the problem.

1. Leak in system Repair leak in system
2. Defective expansion valve Replace valve
3. Suction valve closed Open valve
4. Freon shortage Add freon
5. Plugged receiver drier Replace drier
6. Compressor suction valve leaking Replace valve
7. Bad reed valves in compressor Replace reed valves

I don't want to keep pumping freon in it and it keep overcharging it. I only put about half a can in and the pressure seemed to rise Now if I keep putting Freon in it SHOULD it eventually (the PSI) go down?

Does it read 115 with the engine running and the AC on? Is the compressor turning? What was wrong with the AC to begin with?

A while back the compressor or pulley was making some noise and didnt blow cold air, So I never cut it on again. After getting a new underdrive pulley put on I checked to see if the AC would continue making the noise and once cut on it did not make any noise. So I figured I would try to recharge it and see if it worked.. And it was 115 with the engine running and AC at full blast as per the instructions that came with the Freon.

If you have 115 on the LOW side, I doubt you'll get any refrigerant in it.

I don't think any made it in. But not sure of the reason why it reads so High other than the reasons I posted on the first post.

If the pressure is the same with the AC off or on and the comp clutch is engaging, then the comp isn't pumping the freon. I'd like to see the high pressure aswell. If it is also at 115 with the comp turning that would confirm the comp is no good.

I will have to go buy a different gage for the high side since the recharge kit gage is only for the low side. I never did check the pressure with the AC off. I will do that tomorrow, since Im at work atm. And thanks Paul

Was your guage possibly reading the pressure in the can instead of the pressure in the system. The can would be around 115 full possibly.

Its possible but its it said it was supposed to read the psi from the low pressure line. Ill get another gage and try it out. Thanks for the heads up Thomas

double check that your compressor is turning when a/c is on and that both fans come on

Don't trust the POS Gauges mounted on the "kits" you can buy at autozone. Get yourself a proper ac manifold gauge set, they aren't that expensive.

You need the high and low side pressures for proper diagnosis. The LOW side should NOT be that high with the pump running.

Without the compressor running, R134a refrigerant will have pressure that is greater than the ambient temperature.

In your case Leukic, the gauge will read 115 PSI at about 90 degrees F.
