The oil pan gasket is "static". The front and rear covers use lip seals around the harmonic balancer / crankshaft. A lip seal is a wear item on both the seal and sometimes it will wear the shaft it is riding on (as shown in Bill's harmonic balancer picture). The front and rear covers can be a little tricky to install, as they have to be centered on the crankshaft. If either of those covers is not installed properly, you can have premature seal failure.

I sure hope the OP never went back to the shop that quoted $2,400 to fix his "leaking oil pan gasket".

Well when the balancer came apart it cut into the oil pan and the timing cover. $1700 dollars later I have no leaks. RPM Motorsports in Garner NC did a great job.

I took it to a Chevy dealer and they found out it was a high pressure hose that the warranty did not cover so I end up paying from my pocket.
What high pressure hose was bad? Power steering? Or is there actually an engine oil high-pressure line that I am not aware of? I am still investigating a leak as well with your exact same scenario.

That post is 8 years old and the poster hasn't been on since 2016. I tried googling oil hose C5, oil pressure hose C5, etc. I came up with nothing useful for you, sorry.

There is a high pressure power steering hose that does leak. It goes from the power steering pump to the steering rack. With the water pump out it is easy to change.

Default Oil pan leak

I just had the same type of situation on my 02. Prior to taking it in for an oil change, no leaks after oil change now I have a leak. I took it to a shop to have the Harmonic Balancer replaced and he said it was the oil pan gasket $1800. The front seal was "bone dry". I am going to take a closer look at it to see if I can find the leak. From what I have seen so far it looks like it is coming from the front of the engine because there is oil all over the pan not just in the back.
