Only time that I ever had that happen is was when I had my car parked on an unlevel grade with the nose of the car pointing down.
Once I left from that area & was out on the flat open road the warning came accross the instrument pannel.
Checked the oil right away & oil was right up there.

Yep...had it happen once in my 99 just a fluke.
Now heres something to think about. This happened on my girlfriends 02. We checked the oil and it was FULL. Then the "noise" started...sounded like a bad pulley...then it went away a bit and came back. Long story short the oil pump wasn't keeping up and we ended up pulling the motor.
Cam=toast
Cam bearings=toast
the list goes on....
so we got a whole new cam, all new bearings, new oil pump etc etc etc...
The problem is the oil hits the oil pressure sending unit relatively quickly due to the way oil is routed through the motor so we never saw a drop in pressure but the results were
I sincerely hope this isn't the case for you because it sucks (unless you have been dying for an excuse to redo your motor )
just something to think about.

me too...
my '02 does it most of the time.. with 8VETTE7's answer... but, rely on your dipstick...it's the "old fashion way" to confirm oil level... I believe my sensor sticks since It's driven infrequently....after I drive it & park & restart, it changes from "Low Oil" to read the correct oil pressure...

My 99 had an intermittent low oil level warning in the DIC a few times and dipstick level was fine, checked wires and were OK, so last oil change picked up a sensor from NAPA and changed it,,,,so far so good.........

Was your gf's 02 stock or modded?

Had this happen once. Replaced the oil level sensor and no problems since. Replacement of the sensor is an easy DIY when done at an oil change.

My sensor went bad. It was reading a consistent 90+ psi. Tough to reach but doable. When I changed to the Fast 92, I installed the sensor remotely following instructions found on the forums here. No issues since then. And if it ever goes again it is a 2 minute repair.
