I removed them and used the 3m plastic polish and 3" pads on an air buffer to polish them. Sprayed mild detergent and water in the inside and swished it around, that helps a little.

the pits you are seeing are impossible to smooth out...I have tried. You can give it a try if you like, but you will need to buy some cesium oxide powder and some power tool to do it right. I ended up just living with what I got after hours of polishing with the cesium...maybe about a 50% improvement...not sure it really made any difference.
I would give cleaning them a really good shot.
