Default 03Z First gear sometimes dosnt engage

When driving about the Z and I come to a stop then am about to take off and put the car in first gear, the shifter sometimes dosnt want to go in. I have to row it into second gear then back to first gear for it to catch. Now this isnt all the time but everyone once in a while. Was wondering if this truly is normal or just a sign that the car needs an oil change. Would like to take care of this ASAP hopefully not a tranny rebuild? If so I'll live with it till it pukes a gear out

Sorry to hear you are waiting for your tranny to puke so that you can replace the synchronizer.

I couldn't disagree more. Many have experienced this(including myself), and a simple fluid change resolved the issue. My tranny started doing this at 73K. I changed the fluid with dexron III (crazy, huh? ), and the result was smooth engagement into first, and smoother shifting through all gears. If you are still on your original fluid, this is your first step.

Consider doing the shifter alignment as well. Its easy and fast to do.

never heard of that, i'm going to search that up. i plan on doing the antivenom mod with one washer to make it easier to shift throughtout the whole pattern. but like stated above i think the oil change will do wonders. i'll keep yall informed.
