YeloFevr,
I saw that you bypassed your VATS system by soldering in a resistor the same as the key. I've had a problem with my car starting for months and finally took it in to the dealer where they quoted me $518 to replace the ignition switch, lock cylinder, new keys, etc. Could you pm me how you wired that resistor in and is it still working for you?
This car is my daily driver and if I can't get this fixed I'm gonna have to pay the dealer.
Once you solder in a bypass resistor you lose your theft protection. As you already know it does a pretty good job of keeping the car from being started without the correct key. As posted earlier in the thread the lock cylinder may be the only thing that needs to be replaced or maybe it just needs to be cleaned. Both it and the key are subject to dirt and wear. First thing I would do is get a spray can of electronic parts cleaner and spray some in the lock cylinder and then swipe the key in and out a half dozen times and then see if the car starts reliably. You can get a can of electronic parts cleaner at the chain auto parts stores. Just make sure the cleaner is for electronic parts as some of the other cleaners do a good job of destroying them instead.
