Default Need help with HVAC Blower Motor and Fan

When I turn my HVAC on high it makes groaning noise from the dash. Several people said to check out my Blower motor and fan to make sure there isnt anything clogging it up. I have checked the website and have read where people are doing this but I cant find anything explaining how to do this.

Anyone happen to have a link that steps you through getting to the blower motor and proper cleaning/inspection methods?

Thanks!

I don't have a link but can tell you to simply or hurt the back simply...lay under the passenger side footwell and look up. The blower motor is right there. There should be like 3 screws holding it up. Disconnect the electrical to it, remove the screws and drop it down.

That's what I did. My blower motor must have had some moisture run down into it somehow as the blower shaft had some rust on it as did the brushes for motor. I used a fine bristled brass brush to clean the motor brushes and then I lubed the motor's rotating shaft with some 3 and 1 light machine (use on my sewing machine all the time). I actually too the time to spin the fan blade several times and let it set in the house over night. You can add some light weight machine oil by inverting the blower (motor side up, fans down) and holding it by the motor housing. This will release pressure off of the motor shaft and open a very tiny gap. This is where you can apply some of the machine oil and let it work it's way down some. I actually gently spun the fan blades after putting in a couple of drops of oil and repeated that process a few times. Let it set over night (motor side up) and then inverted it the next day and cleaned up any residual oil that leaked back out. Re-intsalled the unit in the reverse method of taking it out and it's been working fine ever since. The first few days after the "treatment" the car did smell like the oil when I turned on the heat but that went away after a few days. That was 3 months ago and it's been working great ever since. Good luck! A little discomfort and a couple of hours of my time was well worth the couple of hundred $$s that I saved replacing with a new fan unit.
