How-To repair EBCM avoiding costly repairs through ABSfixer or Fleabay

I put a light finger smear coat of silicone on all the surfaces when putting the unit back together. An old oil field mechanic habit. I did lose one of the center bolts when putting it back in and that bolt evaporated never to be found when it went to. But, no matter. Have 15K miles on the car since doing that job and no problems.

The link to the replacement relay apparently isn't good any longer. They are showing zero stock on this "obsolete" part.
Does anyone have a current source for one?
I just checked my two front grounds this morning before deciding to pull the EBCM. Both were clean and had been greased at some point in the car's history.

Thanks very much. I just ordered one from Digikey using that part number.
EBCM Relay at Digikey
I also picked up some Dowsil 737 electronics-friendly RTV sealant from Amazon for when I re-assemble the EBCM. I'll probably also hit the board and components with some conformal coating while I'm at it.
The Corvette community is a most helpful one, both online and locally.

Yes, the intent of the resoldering is to correct the 1214 code. It is highly recommended to extract the old solder and replace with new. Several owners also replaced the EBCM Relay. You might want to do that too if you have it all apart. That has also been known to fail.
Good Luck and hope this helps.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the 6 screws that hold the EBCM? Reinstalling my 2001 Convertible's on Thursday, and I don't know how tight they should be. Search feature didn't yield any results. Thanks

I had the active handling problem so i removed the EBCM solder the appropriated spots and reinstalled it. Everything was fine for a few weeks and the problem started again. I removed it again and this time sent it out to be repaired. The guy i sent it to called me asked a few questions and then said he would test it and let me know. He told me he found the problem and repaired it. He sent it back to me and i installed it. After about 10 or 12 miles it started, the active hadelin on the dash would light up and the brakes would shutter a bit. After that happened a few times the active handling light comes on and the dash says service active handling soon. I had cleared all the codes so I checked to see if there were any. The code 28TCS C1287 Came up I cleared the codes a couple times and drove the car again and get the same results every time. Does anyone know if the sensor on the steering column is bad could that be the problem with everything. And I did check the grounds and they are good.

Thanks for the write up! I had had 7 failed joints (All 5 of the relay and 2 on the opposite side at the far end). Tested last night and I engaged the ABS, TCS and AH and all seemed to work with no C1214. Fingers crossed. TIme to seal it up.

And I did check the grounds up on the wheel wells and they seem to be good but i cleaned them anyway and the problem is still the same.. The people who did the work on the EBCM have offer to check it again but if the problem is all being cause by the steering column sensor i don't want to send the module out again. Has anyone had a similar problem? And anyone know a good vette mechanic in MA. I live near springfield so even connecticut would be fine, Thanks for your Help everybody.

I did the abs module resolder in my 02 droptop which solved that part of my problem. Then I noticed that, when driving with the active handling engaged and using cruise control, after a short period of time the steering wheel would give a very slight but noticeable jerk to left and the cruise would disengage. Set cruise, wheel jerk, disengage cruise happened every time without fail. None of these symptoms appeared with active H disabled. I bit the bullet and changed the position sensor, because the symptoms and codes said it was the culprit, and all is well again. I removed the drivers seat and the entire telescoping column because the old sensor was too tight to slide off with the column in the car and by the time everything is disconnected and moved rearward enough to R&R the sensor the column was almost ready to fall out. It is a relatively easy job just center and lock the column then disconnect the battery prior to removal then pay attention to indexing info that comes with the new steering position sensor. There are great posts with pics and precise instructions elsewhere on this forum. The job took me less than four hours to complete and now I could do it in about half that time. I hope this helps
