Default ATI Procharger Owners! We now carry the ATI Performance Products Super Damper and Key Pin Kits...

Dear Corvette Forum Members,

We are now carrying ATI Performance Products Super Damper and Key Pin Kits so you can key your crank and avoid any permanent damage to your engines.

These kits are in stock!

If you are installing the ATI Procharger or contemplating installing the ATI unit, it is highly recommended to key the crank or you WILL risk damaging your engine.

If you purchase this kit direct from ATI Performance Products, it will cost you: $640.20 for the super damper and the key pin kit plus costly freight as these kits are kind of heavy.

If you purchase this kit direct from us, the same parts will cost you: $575.00 including shipping.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this or if you would like to place an order for a kit as we only have a few kits in stock at this time.

As many ATI Prochargers are being installed, there won't be any of these kits left.

Thanks!

Shawn

Does this Damper have fluid in it to help ballance the engine? or is that just the Fluid damper?

vetterdstr,

This is what I found on the ATI Performance Products website along with a diagram so you can get a detailed description of their product. It is a good idea to replace the stock damper with the ATI once as it is already cut, ready to key and is much stronger over the stock unit. It just makes keying the crank easier by cutting the labor time down.

Here is the info:

The patented ATI Super Damper is the only damper designed exclusively for high rpm performance engines. The proven elastomer design is actually two dampers in one: a 4" inner diameter and a 6 3/8" or 7" diameter outer damper in two shells that bolt to the crank hub.

The inner and outer shells are available in steel and in light weight aluminum to contain the steel inertia weight. The inertia weight has six (2-ring design) or eight (3-ring design) computer machined grooves to retain the proper durometer O-rings (dyno tested for each application). O-ring life has been tested to over two million cycles in Winston Cup competition and 10 years in drag racing engines. The unit is rebuildable to new specifications by installing new O-rings.

Extensive dyno and on-track testing has proven the Super Damper far superior to all other designs, especially on engines that turn over 5000 rpm, and is used on nearly 100% of all Winston Cup engines. Shells are black zinc chromate finished and come with laser engraved 360-degree timing marks. Exceeds SFI 18.1 specs.

For years, major manufacturers have used the elastomer-type damper design. These conventional, single strip elastomer dampers have proven very effective on OEM applications operated at low RPM's. They were also surprisingly effective at high RPM's.

Many complex engineering studies have proven elastomer style dampers to be the very best; far superior to the friction type and markedly better than the viscous type in controlling vibrations.

Conventional single strip elastomer dampers are not rebuildable. The main problem with this type of damper is a loss of certain controls inherent in the manufacturing process. An inertia weight pressed with a rubber insulator to the crank hub allows the possibility of the ring to move in its relation to the keyway.
It is also impossible to maintain the concentricity of the inertia ring during manufacturing. The ring must be machined after it's pressed to the hub, then balanced after machining. When it comes loose, imbalance could occur. Hundreds of these OEM imitation SFI approved dampers have failed in service on high RPM engines.

Viscous fluid dampers are sealed. The inertia weight can become locked by bearing failure or, more commonly, from the silicone turning to a solid mass. Your first warning of damper failure will probably be a broken crankshaft resulting in the replacement of your damper AND the engine. Viscous fluid dampers are not only ineffective but are actually detrimental at high RPM's.

The solution? The ATI Torsional Super Damper - the unconventional, unbonded elastomer Super Damper that is actually 2 dampers in 1 diameter.

The ATI Super Damper, U.S. Patent #5,425,287, is the only damper designed exclusively for high RPM performance engines. The proven elastomer design is actually two dampers in one: a 4" diameter and a 7" diameter damper contained in 2 shells that bolt to the crank hub. The inner and outer shells are available in steel and in aluminum to contain the steel inertia weight.

The inertia weight has 8 computer-machined grooves to retain the proper durometer o-rings (dyno tested for each application), and installed at ATI. O-ring life has been tested to over 2 million cycles in Winston Cup competition (9000+ RPM, 1000+ miles) and 10 years in drag racing. The unit is rebuildable to new specifications by installing new O-rings.

Extensive dyno and on-the-track testing by ATI, GM, and Winston Cup engine builders has proven the Super Damper far superior to all other designs, especially on °engines that turn over 6000 RPM, and is used on nearly 100% of all Winston Cup engines.

All ATI Super Dampers feature a replaceable bolt-in crank hub.Shells are black zinc chromate finished, with computer controlled, laser engraved 360° timing marks.

All units are SFI manufacturer certified and exceed SFI spec. 18-1.
The Patented Super Damper also gives you guaranteed performance.

Your car will run as fast or faster than with your present damper or your money back. Dyno tests have proven the Super Damper will allow the engine to produce as much as 45 HP over a Fluidampr at 7500 RPMs and commonly 12 to 30 horsepower over OEM and other aftermarket brands.

The Super Damper for the 400 and 454 cubic inch Chevrolet motors is guaranteed imbalanced to exact OEM specifications to +/- 1/10 inch ounce. No engine rebalance is necessary to replace the OEM unit. It can be installed right out of the box.

The latest dampers available from ATI are the Super Dampers for the LT1 and LS1 Chevrolet engines featuring built-in serpentine pulleys on the OD ofthe damper. Choose from 7 1/2" or 6 3/4" diameter 10% underdrive. They are available in a standard 6 groove configuration or with 8 or 10 grooves for blower applications. Hubs are available machined for Serpentine, Gilmer, or HTD drives up to 60% underdrive for external oil pumps.

Hope this helps make your choice easier.

Thanks!

Shawn

thorin,

I guess I saved you from posting all that!

Cool product, huh? Talk about HEAVY DUTY! We just installed it on our ATI coupe a week ago when we keyed the crank.

Default Re:ATI damper/pin install

How easy is it to install this; what tools are involved and are the instructions detailed?

billiam01,

Keying the crank is a process that takes time. It took our guys about 4-6 hours using a lift, all the shop tools required to drill the crank.

There are instructions that come with these kits, however they don't give you step by step detailed/pictured instructions. They basically tell you what to do, but don't really get into detail on it.

If you want it done, bring the car down to us and we will have it done for you.

Thanks!

Shawn
