Default Simple Lowering question

I want to lower my C5 on the stock rear bolts. All the write ups that I've read mention raising the rear end and placing jack stands under the rear end.
If I do this from a PIT do I need to left the car?
Does the weight need to be off the rear wheels in order for me to turn the bolt?

Thanks for the advice...

Since the weight of the car hangs by the two bolts, yes, it makes it a lot easier.
