I still can't find where it says to use only Mobil 1. I can only find that it says to use oil that meets GM4718M. And the viscosity doesn't say to use 10w-30 only if 5w-30 isn't available. It says that you can use SAE 10W-30 if it’s going to be 0F (-18C) or above.
Nowhere does it say on my oil filler cap that Mobil 1 is recommended, only that Mobil 1 is what they used for the factory fill and to see the Owner's Manual for the special oil requirements.
Don
If it says on the cap and in the manual that Mobil 1 was used as the factory fill then thats pretty much a recommendation from GM as far as I'm concerned or they wouldn't endorse it. As far as the grade of oil it says you can use 10W30 but it says recommended under 5W30 throughout the temp range. These oil debates get old real quick, it's your car use whatever you feel is right. All the best bro!

Why the silly questions? There's really no debate on WHAT oil and what type you SHOULD use, We live in the USA. USE ACME brand 10W40 at $.99cents a gallon if you want

I'm not debating oil. I'm questioning what you say the book says. You are stating your interpretation of what the book says, which is not what the book says.
Yes Don, you are correct. It is my interpretation what I understand when I read the manual, your interpretation may be different and thats what makes this forum a great source of information. We all read the posts, the replies and make our decisions based on our own interpretations. It was nice chatting with you, have a great rest of the weekend.

I could not disagree more. That's not what makes this forum a "great source of information"....conversely, that's what makes this forum a great source of misinformation. The owners manual is clear. The recommendations from GM are clear, right down to the GM standard required for your oil of choice. The information is provided, so you do not have to interpret .......just follow. The facts are published, to avoid confusion.
If you want to put your own personal spin on something.....start with stating the facts first, and then your "interpretation"......that way the reader can determine if you are full of $hit or not.

Thats what I was trying to say from the start. Follow the maintenance schedule and use the recommended fluids and don't worry about it. These oil posts always wind up with someone getting upset about something, in the mean time everyone just take a
Check the viscosity at 100*C and I think you will find Mobil-1 of either viscosity is near the bottom of the 30W range. German Castrol 0W-30 is near the top, which is why I run the German Castrol.
Ditto...my car runs great with the GC. You may lose 2-3 hp over mobil 1 though. I have never seen oil this clean after 3k miles like I see with the GC in my car.
