Default 03 z06 ac overpressurized *need help*

My ac recently started blowing hot so I got to investigating. My climate controls work fine and the compressor is kicking on and not making any odd sounds. With the AC off the low side pressure is around 150psi and with the ac on full blast the pressure goes down to about 120psi. Just to make sure that the gauge isnt messed up I checked mine and a buddies truck also. What could be causing the high pressure?

Your compressor is more than likely failing. Orifice tube blocked from pieces of the compressor coming apart which wont let it pull down the low side.

Well, the part itself is a bit expensive. Just got an estimate from a local shop to fix an AC where the compressor went bad and scattered metal through the system. $1700. If I had had an old compressor that worked, $700.

Holy chit... I didn't realize they were that expensive... You could still save a grand doing it yourself though.

Here's the writeup I'll use if mine ever quits: http://trans5.com/docs/C5%20AC%20Com...eplacement.pdf

150 PSI turned off is to hi. Sounds overcharged to me. Could still have other issues. Should be more like 100psi.

Its not overcharged, I check the AC periodically during the summer...it gets kinda toasty here.
