Can I re-use the housing and only replace the inner shaft and couplers?

It's possible to do that, but if it were me I'd just buy an '01+ TT assembly. They can be had used complete for $400-$500 or so and it would give you the larger diameter 63mm diameter driveshaft. Put a pair of new couplers on and your good. Btw, it's a direct plug-n-play deal. No mods required.

That is truly a catastrophic failure ! Hard to tell on reusing the housing without being able to thoroughly inspect it. If it was my car, I would replace the entire assembly. You can find low mile gently used ones from Corvette Recyclers - forum vendor - at a reasonable price. Replace the bushings with new before installation and you should be good to go.

Been there done that, just find a good deal on the newer stronger tube and save yourself a lot of headaches.

Seen the same thing.....cost me $1900+ for a new torque tube complete. Wiah I found one for less than that, let alone $400-$500. Good luck, and if I may suggest.....since the whole rear will be coming out to incluse the transmission and differential, now is the time to consider any other "upgrades" such as hardened output shafts, gears, or even a new clutch to be on the safe side. It would suck if you get the ride all buttoned up and a year from now the clutch takes a crap.

Just a suggestion.....

Wow, sorry to see that! I agree with the others. Replace the whole assembly would be my choice. The nicks in the propshaft look bad. The propshaft and the torque tube are thin. My fear would be later cracks from some of the deeper nicks.

I'll let the experts answer your question. But as the owner of a 99 6spd with 70K on it I have to ask....What caused this destruction??

I would agree with the members above to get a 01 up TT and install new couplers but if the input shaft/rear hub/TT case are good, you can purchase a DSS driveshaft and poly couplers and have a stronger setup. It's another option.
