Would you have a extra driveshaft you would want to sell?

Sorry I don't. I think you'll have a hard time buying just a stock driveshaft. Best be would be to buy a used torque tube.

Glad you brought this thread back to life.
I see the last post was 2016. oops
My own 99 Coupe A/T not having a problem at 155K+ miles.
My buddy, sitting here with me at the moment has a 99 Nassau Blue Coupe, 'except' his car is 6 speed standard trans.

My question, I'm asking for him, (and myself at this point)..
How do 'we' determine the size of the couplers in our cars?
Or is this just something we have to "wait 'till we tear it down to find out"?

Thanks in advance.

I "THINK" that all 97-2000 cars have the smaller couplers. My buddys 2000 A4 Had the smaller couplers. We changed them with Dorman REPlACEMENT junk and they failed shortly after and we had to install the GM Couplers.

Default TT related ?

Hey CF - Going to Bump this to keep all this C5 Torque tube related material in one place, hope you don't mind. Its the #1 google hit for all things C5 TT.

I am rebuilding my 2004 C5Z TT right now while I have the driveline out to replace the clutch.

I installed the shaft back into the TT housing with new bearings, snap ring went in like a charm, but the rear bearing housing is spinning inside the TT. From what I remember it was nice and snug in there before I removed it. Ive searched and consulted my service manual, although its not much help as its from my old 99 coupe and thus shows the old bolt-style TT. I even tried tapping the input shaft with a hammer/block (as if to remove it) thinking maybe it needed to seat against the snap ring, no dice.

Just turning the input shaft by hand the housing will stay put, but I can easily grab the housing at the back end of the TT and rotate it. Thanks for the help all!

Default tool and torque

Hello. I have the service manual but alas, it is 2 hours away from me, I bought some bolts from a local fastenal, 12.9 grade, and a t50 fits it, as it does the factory bolts. My question is, what is the torque specs on a torque tube for a manual. I read 68 ft/lb is pretty standard for manual and 55 ft/lb for automatic, just looking for clarification. With this clarification, what kind of tool should I use to torque them with? a Torx 50 1/2 drive bit?

Keeping this thread alive.

The torque tube coupling bolts are discontinued.

Any luck with aftermarket bolts?

It’s not a TTY bolt. So I’d think you can just re-use them unless they are damaged.
