 I'm glad to have the car back after many weeks in for odd warranty repairs and for the ring fix . . . so far everything seems to be working well. I will need to break in the engine again and then I am off to the dyno to see if anything has been lost/gained. The service tech at my dealership noted that there was a lot of carbon deposited on the tops of the pistons...since they needed to come out one by one, they were cleaned up. The service manager (a corvette and camaro owner x many cars himself) surmised that this might have been caused by oil blow-by...and could solve my problem with spark knock....I'm counting the miles before I lay into it. As for the piston slap. The engine has 15K miles and supposedly the bore looked fine...no verticle scuffing whatsoever.
Honestly, you cannot tell that the motor was out of this car...they truly did a stand up job. Anyone in Jax, FL needing a trustworthy Chevrolet dealership should feel confident about Chevy at the Avenues. They even left me updates on my answering machine with updates on a regular basis.

c5pilot2001,
I feel your pain! :yesnod:
I had a rough experience. engine rebuld, bored block, hand fitted pistions with new rings, replaced defective oil pump, dealer monkeys scratched paint, then monkeys repainted, broke p/s resevoir, clutch slave, electrical issues after engine back in, leaking brake pipe, etc.
I have found a lot of electrical taped wires and connections. Dealers will rig anything they don't get paid for.
Sounds like your dealer was a little more caring than mine.

Phil,
Glad to hear it went well. I too live in Jax, and I am glad to hear that you have had good luck with Chevy at the Avenues, as I have been going to Nimnicht Chevy because I live on the west side, but I have not been impressed with any of their work. When they did the column lock recall, they put in the one for the auto, and I have the six-speed! I had to make them do it all over again. I am now noticing that I am using about a quart of oil every 1,500 miles, so I fear that I might have to have done what you did. How much was yours using. Also, who is your point of contact at the Avenues? I am a member of the Jax Corvette Club, are you? I don't make many meetings since I am in the military and deployed a lot. Hope to hear from you soon, thanks.

I had my pistons re-ring'd back in October of 2001. Havn't used any oil yet. Prior to the 1st oil change, approx 3200 miles - I got a check light for oil, but that was on 5w30. Now, on my 3rd oil change - and VERY rough driving, at high rpm - it's holding tight, like it should be - on the thicker stuff, 10w30 M1 :D:D.
