My 1999 C5 has 152,000 miles. Check engine light came on. Dealer said code is for faulty Cataytic Converters. Recommending changing them. Gm price for factory replacements $1700.00. Dealer told me the aftermarkets are made cheaper and won't work correct. Does anyone have any experience using aftermarket Cats? Worried that they might still set the sensor off. Dealer told me the aftermarkets are made cheaper and won't work correct. Does anyone have a brand recommendation that doesn't need modification and work correctly.
Thanks Ira
Watch the f/s parts section for used exhaust, the stock exhaust sells really cheap, you should be able to pick up a stock x-pipe with the cats for cheap.
Wow! I thought my mileage was high. I have a 6 speed and just changed the clutch because the throughout bearing and Pilot bearing were shot. Disk still had plenty of meat.
It sounds like its got a complaint about the passenger side cat as you know. I'm not an expert on the cats but I believe the rear O2 sensor is the one that determines if the cat is working correctly or not. So, has there been any issues with the car recently such as poor running or performance, eating too much fuel and so on? Were there any other codes? Clear the code and see if it comes back or not.
