Default C6 Instrument Cluster in a C5. And it works.

I came across a cheap C6 cluster and decided to play around a little bit. I bought the connectors at mouser for about 5 bucks and tried some simple test fits. It seems to work well. I did get an error saying to "Service Fuel System". I don't know if the fuel gauge works seeing as I was low on gas to begin with. All of the other gauges work as they should. I will say that the LED backlighting is a nice touch even in the daylight. I didn't play with hooking the HUD up and the DIC buttons will have to wait when I get bored again as I don't have that harness from the cluster to the switches. I am sure that the ability to read codes is gone and I can say that the traction control switch being depressed does not do anything on the dash. The blinkers still worked, but did not appear on the dash.

Like I said, if I come across some of that other stuff cheap, I'll play more. I want to try a BCM from a C6 to see what I can get to work, so if anyone knows where I could pick one up cheap, let me know!

Only reason I'd ever do this is if the DashTronix could be rigged to work, which would be hella cool if so.

Do you have the C6 HUD as well?

No, but if I find one cheap enough, I'll play.

The C6 uses CAN-BUS and not OBDII. I don't know if that means teh BCM is different, but probably.

It still spits out Class 2 data. Everyone already said that the cluster could not work, but guess again.

We have a huge network of people on this forum, I've gained massive amounts of knowledge in the past 10 years

Nice work, keep us posted on the gas gauge, looks like that is the major player here in making this work

NOTE: the late '03 cars used the same setup as the C6(fuel pump and sender is top of the tank........although besides the air bag(needs to be moved), I've never seen any issue regarding the fuel gauge between the C5 cluster years(when used in 97/8 to get the HUD connector)

What am I missing? I just clicked that link and saw a set of gauges that are just like the C5 cluster. Other than the DIC display which said "Corvette by Cheverolet" Is that it?

I guess it's a way to replace your C5 cluster if they are no longer available? Great job...

Awesome! I'm subscribing to see how this pans out, having a C6 HUD would be neat.

Why? What's the point of the exercise anyway, add more complication to an already complicated system for ZERO upside.

The upside in my opinion is a better LCD readout/display and the LED lighting which I think most will agree is WAYYYYYYYY better than the "BlackLights" currently in use.

Plus it was something to do. It hasn't been done from what I've seen so why not try something new? I'm sure I could get a HUD to work to. GM has always been good about sticking with what they know and what works. A lot of their stuff that is interchangeable would really surprise some people.

And you'll probably lose the capability to get OBD codes since you can't get them from the C6.
